OT: Cell Phones - Whaddya Use?

Postby T-Bone » Tue Nov 18, 2008 1:30 am

Technology is moving along so damn fast these days, keeping up with the Joneses is expensive. I know many people ALWAYS have to have the newest/trendiest stuff out there, while others prefer the "old reliable".

I got into the Cell Phone thing around 2000 or so. After a few different phones, problems, deaths, and an auto mishap (phone/tire) I finally had stuck to Nokia. After many of their models, I'm still using the 6255i, which some of my co-workers think looks like a folding brick. Well... After seeing 4-5 of my coworkers returning their Razr's due to unexplainable and utter failures, and a few more having their new touch screen thingamajigs lock up, My 6255i is still going strong. 8)

What do you use, and what have you had positive/negative experiences with?

I'm still resisting getting an electronic leash...
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

My first phone with Verizon was a cool little Samsung something or other that I loved (but the camera didn't zoom  ). Next was a Razr, which had the best sound (clarity & volume) for ringtones). I would have kept it, until my drunk sister attacked me and the phone went flying. Razr + concrete = epic failure. They're so thin that they don't hold up well under fire. Now I have the VZ Navigator and I love it EXCEPT that the ringtone clarity sucks ass compared to the Razr. Other than that, no probs.

Started out in high school with a clunky blue Nokia... then had a motorola... then another motorola, this time a flip phone, great phone... then I switched from US Cellular to Cingular and had some Sony Ericsson thing that was awesome with all these neat features. Then went back to US Cell and had a razr, that I loved until I got tired of looking at it. Needed to not be in roaming everywhere (as I was outside my 12-state more often than in) so I switched to Verizon, and I have an LG nV, which is a piece of shit. Loves to cut itself off/on, has a mind of its own, freezes when I try to use the IM feature and ends up sending IMs to people that were the messages they just sent. Grrr. But it has a full keyboard, and I text a lot. Soo...

I had one of those. That was my first one. Pieces of shit. Didn't hold a charge well.

I had a Sony Ericsson when I had AT&T... it was a cute little blue guy. :D Still have the damn thing, actually... dunno what for, but I still have it. Hell, I probably still have the huge Nokia thing laying around somewhere. Bjg = packrat.

I've been through a handful of phones with various companies. I had THE best customer service and service when I was with T-Mobile. I drove from KY to CA and lost service once for only about an hour. Because my employer goes through Verizon, I now use Verizon to get the discount. I have a Razr and love it but have an issue with being able to email video msgs. I can't. I've called their tech support various times with questions about phones or me not being able to email videos and even took it to a store to have "a tech" look at it and they don't seem to know what they are talking about or how to fix it. (I bought a memory card and just download the videos and pics to my computer and send them.) I get different stories from different techs and none of their suggestions work. BUT- the service is mostly great. I live in a somewhat rural area and except for a few "dead zones" that I can live with, I'm happy.

I just got a Krazr this summer. I had very cheapass phones until now, but yeah, they did hold up better.

AT&T's Tilt (which is the HTC 8925) for me.

Absolutely love it: slide out qwerty keyboard, 3MP camera (takes video, too!), and built-in GPS. With AT&T's 3G and Edge, I always have a signal! 8)

I have a Palm Treo 700p with Alltel. Now that I've had it awhile, it's alright. I'm able to surf the web, email
and text with no problems. It takes ok pictures and the signal is pretty decent.

Probably when my contract is up, I'll pick up an iphone.
Past phones I've had was a Razr (alltel) and some sort of Nextel (what a piece of crap!)

I have a Nokia that was free with T-Mobile and I've had it for almost 3 years with zero problems. Call me crazy, but I only use the phone to...make phone calls!!! And an occasional text.

I'm using this ugly thing, but it's one of the best phones I've ever had. I prefer Motorola phones, but I don't get as good reception with those. This Nokia gets twice as good reception and has everything I need on it and some stuff I don't.

This is the one I use...

Can't do anything fancy with it but it gets decent reception and I could throw the thing up against a brick wall or run over it with my truck and it would still work fine.

Got a several-yrs-old Motorola on Alltel service. Works fine...always has.
When friends & business partners ask why I still have it, I smile and say, "I can NOT answer this one just as easily as I can NOT answer a new one."

A friend of mine has one of those. They're nearly indestructible. It's a tiny little thing, but he's had it for a couple of years and swears by it.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it picks up noise when I am dialing in the car. I can't always tell if it's dialing. It's fine once the other person answers, though.

Is that the Nokia 6085, Rick? If so, it's good to know that you like it. I just got this one for my husband a couple of months ago.
