What if Perry Rerecorded the Classics?

I know it probably would never happen, as SP has spoken so fondly of the originals, but I would love to hear HIM re-record the classics. Not trying to emulate the original recordings, but perhaps rearranged, different tempos, styles, instrumentation, etc.
As he has matured over the years, what would he do stylistically to those great songs if he were so inclined?

I'd be shocked if Perry recorded the outgoing message on his voicemail

They wouldn't sound as good as they did 30 years ago.
Why fix them unless they're broke?

Agreed.
Plus he'd probably do mostly ballads, which I really don't need to hear again.

$$$, at least that's why the current Journey lineup re-recorded them. I don't think they are broke and SP probably doesn't either. I don't know that SP needs the money, from what I have read (who really knows besides him). I just know that sometimes artists like to take a different tack on the same material. You see it all the time in concert (unplugged, etc.).

...which they are not.
Journey shouldn't have done it and neither should SP.
They're just fine how they are.

Speculation. I wouldn't be looking for them to sound "better" anyway. I'd love to hear Perry do them unplugged down a step or two and I'd want them to sound
different. This is where
artistry comes in. Could Perry and Journey re-arrange the songs into something beautiful? I think they could. Get over the fucking pretentious Perry mindset that re-recording them will in some way diminish their original form. Perry seems creatively bankrupt so redoing some already familiar songs might be the only chance for him to record again. I'd welcome him singing those songs again.

Maybe he could rerecord some of the Augeri era material. Journey doesn't seem to mind doing it.

He did more than that. He just reissued it... along with a bonus
double length version of Don't Stop Believin'.

And if you play his outgoing message backwards it says his comeback date is June of 09.

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm tired of bands redoing their own stuff or other people's stuff. If it ain't original music, then it's time to pack it in.

I think Perry should record a CD of Kevin Chalfant covers.

He wants
everything to do with them, but I don't think he can sing the songs.

Yeah, that would be like Elvis re-recording his old hits with a different band before he died. Why would he do it if he didn't like his former band members?

I talked to Elvis last week. He doesn't want to sing anymore. He's just fine collecting social security and living on the beach. Wishes that Lisa Marie would settle down, though.

Why do something that is not going to equate to the original as far as chart position money made, emotional attachment, etc. He's the original vocalist, he doesn't have to fool anybody anyway.
