OT: Rush rumored to hang it up after one more tour in 2011

If Ed, whose sources have been spot-on with everything in the past, is to be believed again:
http://www.rushisaband.com/

Apparently, the band turned down a 35-date tour offer from LiveNation for 2009 and told the crew to find other work until 2011, when they "should be ready to head back out." But, at least Ed says this farewell tour should be in support of a new album.

Too bad. :( So far I've only been able to see one show on the 2007 leg of the Snakes & Arrows Tour (I know, I jumped on the Rush bandwagon late). I better start saving my money for 2011. :(

Man I still haven't seen them. I'll have to make sure to catch them. Snakes & Arrows was either overrated or underrated depending on who you ask. I personally hope the next album is a bit better, but S&A was a very solid effort.

Well it looks like I will be going to a ton of Rush shows in 2011!!

Saw them twice on the Snakes tour, had such a fun time at both shows.

Such a legendary band, one of my all-time favorites. So glad to catch them on the S&A tour, I'll definitely be seeing them the next time around.

They never disappoint me.

Well, at least it looks like they are planning on a new studio album. Good for them.

I won front row dead center tickets to see Rush in St. Louis on their Vapor Trails tour. There was a contest that they had on Rush.com that asked me to guess at what the first song after the intermission would be when they played St. Louis. The song I guessed was Spirit Of The Radio. (Real hard to guess - it was the same one they used on the prior tour...LOL!)

Saw them on the Moving Pictures tour and Signals tour. I can't imagine them sounding better than they did then.

I saw them on those tours too, and that was as good as it gets. I've seen them since then, and the shows were good... but that era was fucking magic. They were in their prime, and their live shows were in a league of their own. The Permanent Waves tour was fucking awesome too.

Those were the best years ever when I broke my 14 year old rock cherry. Foreigner 4, Paradise Theater tour, Hi Infidelity, Ozzy, Diver Down. My parents were going through marriage issues so my escape was going to shows with my friends and their older siblings. Yes, Genesis, Patty B., Some of the greatest tours ever. Along with Journey and Foghat, just a great time in my musical life.

1982 when i was around eight years old i got into MTV back when they were cool and showed actual rock videos i saw stuff like ozzy, journey, van halen, styx, foreigner, etc. and my parents were baffled when i suddenly stopped playing with matchbox cars and started buying all these 45's and albums and they actually bought me a set of drums.wish i could've seen all the shows you got to see.yep and one of my first 45's was 'slow ride' by foghat.great memories.my older brother went to those shows you mentioned and i begged but was too young to go.also had a crush on the go-go's and joan jett, lol.

Hang it up? Nope. Tour alot less or not at all? That I can see. They will ride the digital wave for as long as they want to, release a new track here and there. Nothing wrong with that.

"Hang It Up" sounds like a Rush-style album or song name... they'd probably have cover art making some sort of play on words out of it.

:? SJ, you don't have to like Rush, but if you're any kind of a rock music fan, you must at least appreciate and respect the fact that those guys are extremely talented musicians.

One thing I always loved about Rush is their love for tongue-in-cheek, somewhat self-deprecating, dry comedy.

If they even make it that long. They might be in wheelchairs by then. Maybe they should tour in 2009 and call it the Farewell Tour? It worked for The Eagles.... three or four times!

Right from the mouth of Gary Weinrib...

"I think we're gonna stay quiet for awhile and then start writing -- when we're going to start writing I can't say just yet," Lee notes. "It may be in the fall, maybe the spring, maybe the following spring. But eventually we'll start writing some songs and recording them, and hopefully that will be followed up by another tour down the road a couple years from now."

All three members of Rush are 56 or younger.. all very lively and always in good health. They're actually fairly young for a band that's been around since the early 70s.

Nice try though...

In that case they've got at least three more farewell tours on their horizon before they have to break out the walkers.

Absolutely true. In my book Rush 2112 and Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare" are the two best concept albums in the history of Rock N Roll.

Also love 2112 because, like Neal Peart, Im a big fan of Ayn Rand.

I think its time for them to do so. I have read all of Peart's books and know how he feels about touring. Its no doubt that these guys are the king of touring workhorses. The only break of any significance was when Peart lost his family in what was a terrible, terrible tragedy. It is amazing that they came back after that. When you get to their age and your money situation is in good shape then you should be spending your remaining days with your loved ones and not on stage..One offs here and there, cut some tracks from time to time for itunes and limit it too that.

By that time maybe I'll have saved enough money for tickets!
