The sound quality on these are terrible but you can get the idea of just how bad ass this tribute was. This was from their 1st show in like 6 months with only a few days of rehearsal as they had just got back thier orignal guitar player. On a few of these Kelty even plays guitar. Enjoy if you can. They sound best at low volume.. This is audio only. no video. I will be mailing them to a MR member for transfer to digital and audio improvment if possible.

If you didn't know better, you would think this was a boot from the Departure tour. No one sounds more like Perry than this guy.

You're right! He is absolutely amazing, and I tried like hell to get him into working on a recording project.

I think we could have whipped up some bad-ass tunes, but oh well.

Does he have any Christian Rock albums released yet? I'm not into that type of music, but it's the closest we're going to get to hearing new Perry material. Tell people Steve changed his name and became born again. I bet a lot of people would think it's him once they hear this voice.

The Separate Ways demo is a bit lacking after hearing the other clips. He sounds like a robot. He doesn't sound anything much like Perry there, maybe he lost a little of his range due to inactivity...?

Sounds like he lost a little of his range, but still sounds better than TBF Perry, as far as a clean upper sound. Why is he singing at the annual Hog Roast at the Main Street Saloon? I guess, like many have said, he really doesn't care about the money at all.

That makes no sense. The last I had heard, he was not interested in singing secular music.
I think he still sounds great though.

Maybe he fell off the wagon, or in his case, the stairway to heaven.

Those my space clips are NOT Jason singing. It says he joined the band recently so there isnt anything on there with him I dont think.. I am so curious to hear if he still has it..

Correct. I figured that out instantly. He plays keys and sings only backing I believe. Man, I am just floored by their ability to sound just like 80's Journey...music and all. Amazing.

Me too. I thought it was him, some years down the road.

You guys should have seen them when they had their 1st drummer around 94 if you think that was good. Jesus.. It was insane because the guy duplicated Smitty to a T and they were more well rehearsed. Jason was ad-libing stuff that was mind shattering. He still kicks ass on these clips but the ad-libs are more subdued. Take it from a drummer of 26 years that this is true.. Fucking amazing talent.

Is Kelty the guy you all told me about a while ago when we were debating who the best replacement singer would be?
The one who now does Christian music?
Great voice IMO.
I had never heard of him and can't understand why someone with such a fabulous voice is not more well known.
The music business sucks sometimes.

Holy cow! If I didn't know that was Jason Kelty, somebody would be pretty hard pressed to prove to me that isn't Perry. Gawd does he sound like him, loved Dixie Highway!

This one did it for me.
And DSB.
I know the sound quality isn't the greatest, but man! This bloke can sing.
You sure its not SP jamming with some guys?

I seen Kelty in Columbus back in the 1995-1996 time frame. The dude was fucking awesome.
Journey should have given Jason a look recently. They just may have fucked up.

I would say it is Kelty on the demos, same tone. I would email and ask but really can't be bothered.
Either way, I guess it is good that he is back in the game.

I'm not big into tribute bands but I would have paid extra to see this guy. Jason's voice voice sounds clear and full on those clips, despite the poor quality.
