OT - An original song

Here are the lyrics to a song I wrote in '96

Winter of My Life

Seasons are changin, cold winds are blowin' in
Another stage of my life now begins.
As I look through my own eyes,
I realize more and more
Just what this life has in store...

A Love... That meant everything to me,
I lost ahold and it slipped away.
Now I can't even bear the pain,
So comes the Winter of my life.

Springtime came early, then passed without a trace,
as the summer unveiled her face.
all the warmth and kindness one man could ever need,
in fact, for her I would bleed...

A love... That meant everything to me,
I lost control and she slipped away.
Now I can't even bear the shame,
So comes the Winter of my life.

My leaves are turning from green, to red, to brown
I watch as they fall to the ground.
being crushed in life's cold grip,
blown away without a thought
just like the things I have sought.

A Love...that meant everything to me,
I lost ahold and it slipped away.
Now I can't even bear the pain,
So comes the winter of my life...

aw...
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

That's a depressing song dude....Try taking about 1/3 of of it out and rework the remaining 2/3rds to be a little more universal....

Got any music written for it? Just from reading the words, it seems it would segue nicely into Randy Bachman's "Our Leaves Are Green Again" from the Jazzthing album...

That's a great song... sorry, can't seem to turn up any samples/YT clips etc...

OUR LEAVES ARE GREEN AGAIN
(Randy Bachman)

Seems the birds have flown
and the leaves are brown
And my world is turning grey
Will my aching heart ever sing again
Always wanting yesterday

All I gotta do is close my eyes
All I gotta do is want your touch
Only in a dream can I pretend
That our leaves are green again

As the years go by
We are satisfied
With the embers of our life
As the pieces fall
Sweet old memories call
And the angels smile on us

And all we gotta do is close our eyes
All we gotta do is want to touch
We can share the dream and both pretend
That our leaves are green again

And all we gotta do is close our eyes
All we gotta do is want to touch
We can share the dream and both pretend
That our leaves are green again

And all we gotta do is close our eyes
All we gotta do is want to touch
We can share the dream and both pretend
That our leaves are green again

Comes the last page
Where the story ends
And our leaves are green again

What I mean is that it appears to be a very personal song dealing with personal situations and emotions... All I mean is that there are some phrases that may be too close to home, and there may be ways to say what you feel in a more concise and universal manner. It's very hard to explain. But I always come from the Ernest Hemingway school of writing....Don't get me wrong - It's very good, and has lots of good imagery. All I'm saying is, you may want to study little bits of it and think of more concise and universal (and I don't mean cliche, like "staring into your eyes" or "My heart was burning") ways to get your point across.

You know, that makes alot of sense. I wrote that as a kind of catharsis. Not even trying to make it a 'song'...the 'choruses' i wrote WAY after. The verses just kind of 'flowed' one day....It is personal. And I guess the way it was written is sort of sterile. Thanks...

In the end, all that matters is your satisfaction emotionally with what you have done. If you want to reach a larger audience, you have to be willing to let them identify with some of what you are feeling....

Rock on, my brother!

Nah, I like it the way it is. The best writing is usually personal.

You're Only With Me (In the Rain)

Through the window of my mind,
I can see a new horizon
I find I'm callin out your name,
without fully realizin'
That you're just a memory,
You have long since gone away
I thought that I had pushed you deep inside
to save you for a rainy day

Cause thats the only time I'm yours
thoughts of you bring on the pain
whenever it rains, it pours
You're only with me in the rain

Ooh-oh...On such a bright and sunny day
I know where I wanna be
I must chase these thoughts of you away

In the rain you're always with me,
In the sun there is no pain
wish sunny days would last forever
You're only with me in the rain

Finding the key to unlock my heart,
I'm determined to break the chains
tried my best to lose the feelings,
and only a memory remains
If I ever see a patch of blue sky
I'll push you deeper in my mind
but here comes the clouds again
proving love's truly blind

Ooh-oh...I only wish that I could tell ya
how far i fall from reality
I'm looking for a love to use as shelter

In the rain you're always with me
in the sun there is no pain
wish sunny days would last forever
you're only with me in the rain

This is very sad....she's only with you in the rain, when there's pain......

Not very catchy, These would be the type of songs you put at the end of side A.

Wow... is this about some chick? At first I thought maybe you'd bet the wrong way on a Superbowl game...

Seriously, more great songs have been born from bad relationships than any other subject... especially when you deal with people like this:

I write lyrics quite a bit and have a few pieces I'm very fond of. I'll bite the bullet and post some of my stuff on here, and if you guys like it I'll provide some more. :)

False Hope (Song of Mead City)

So I find myself back right where I began
Fallen behind all the others who ran
Surrounded by places that are too familiar
Ash-covered roads lined with broken mirrors

You can do anything that you dream
At least that’s how they make it seem
But I’m caught in Hell right when it gets hotter
Stuck here in this forsaken backwater

Oh, what a wonderful world
It’s too bad I can’t see it
Yes, ’tis a beautiful life
You can’t make a fool believe it

Oh, such bright skies
Endless, infinite in scope
Yes, blue and wide
Gives us all false hope

Angels fly among us all or so they say
I hope to meet one someday
Why they aren’t here isn’t hard to tell
Angels just don’t belong in Hell

Now and then I’ll spy one flying low
Yet out of the range of Cupid’s bow
I reach too far then stumble and fall
And I tell myself through it all

Oh, what a wonderful world
It’s too bad I can’t see it
Yes, ’tis a beautiful life
You can’t make a fool believe it

Oh, such bright skies
Endless, infinite in scope
Yes, blue and wide
Gives us all false hope

The ones who fled are too wise to return
I’d love nothing more but to join them on the run
Tough are these trials that I endure
My troubles don’t set with the sun
Friends have grown apart, grown older
Changed and discovered new desires
If only I had been a little bolder
I’d be flying ahead of the fire

Oh, what a wonderful world
It’s too bad I can’t see it
Yes, ’tis a beautiful life
You can’t make a fool believe it

Oh, such bright skies
Endless, infinite in scope
Yes, blue and wide
Gives us all false hope

And on the chance that the hope was true
I’ll find my way back to you
If only for a moment we’ll relive the past
But we all know life slips away too fast....

Like it - depressing and sad, but with style and some great imagery.

hometown hero never had it so well
maybe it was fate or he just couldn't tell
if he was just runnin, runnin in circles

he never showed what was on his mind
stereotype or something else in kind
if he could understand, maybe just understand

that nothing ever goes the way you think that it should
every day seems so maybe misunderstood
stages of state of mind that you can't put away
that gets you through the times when nothing else could
or maybe it would

if the hometown hero would have stayed close to home
instead of looking for life in whatever everyone else saw
cause he was just runnin, runnin in circles

but late at night when you talk to the stars
breathing life into belated memories
you feel yourself floating yea just floating
though the night and through all the stars
wrapping yourself in a lost memory
at least your not runnin, or running away

that nothing ever goes the way you think that it should
every day seems so maybe misunderstood
stages of a dream that you can't put away
that gets you through the times when nothing else could
or maybe it would

maybe it would
iceberg
leave me to my raging apathy
