Is there any solid info on the band's future plans???

Postby Carlitto H@kk » Tue Dec 02, 2008 3:55 pm

So, thier very successful tour ends, everyone seems to
have gone home to relax and unwind yet Arnel is reaping
the benefits of becoming a national hero in his homeland.
Good for him; likable guy, seems genuine and still a feel-good
story.

But I find it kinda wierd that he is out there giving interviews
and talking about the band's future plans. We all know in the
past that Schon and Friga have frowned upon anyone else
in the band talking to the public about what is going on with
the band or it's future plans.

Has anyone read/heard any comments from either of those
two on what thier next move will be? Another tour? Any
plans to capitalize on Arnel's still healthy voice and record
new material?

Perhaps he is putting in the early work to promote a tour in the East?

I think it's all to promote the tour. I read somewhere that he said that Neal wanted to begin writing music towards the end of next year, if I recall correctly. Don't quote me.

As soon as it was reported that Arnel said that touring with Queen might be an option, I tuned him out. An Asian tour starting in March is the only credible thing to be sure about. Jon Cain is the only one I might actually listen to concerning the band's future plans.
What I think is they'll work Arnel until the end of his work visa and take a long, if not permanent break as a band.

As late as June at least last year the touring was to be with Carlos Santanta or The Scorpions. There's a lot of people with fingers in the pie. you can't ever be sure until you hear from Azoff Management.

Hey Jeremey

Does is sound like they are already having problems?! Why would SteveW think they are headed for a permanent retirement?

That was Gunbot that made that comment and it really wouldn't surprise me.
J's thread last week where he "bared his soul" in a drunken haze  got me to thinking...

According to J, part of the problem the band, Neal specifically, had w/him was his
commitment to his family. How many of you noticed that, during this past summer's tour,
Arnel made an awful lot of comments about being homesick and how hard it was
being separated from his family; wonder if those sentiments have ever started to
wear thin w/Neal. I wonder if little stuff like that sewed any seeds of doubt
in the back of his mind and made him wonder if they made the right choice?

Right choice?

So, what's Neal's play if they want to ditch Arnel?
I don't know that Augeri'd want back in. Ditto Jeff and Jeremey.
Yet another new YouTube discovery? Eeeeyurrrrghhhh.
Short of grovelling to Perry in an effort to get him back,
they're virtually all out of options.

Arnel's as good as it gets --and he IS good-- all-around, and at this time.
His family can be flown in, briefly, for a mid-tour visit if it gets really bad.
If Arnel can learn to not belt every note, he'll not only sing certain songs better,
but his voice will last a lot longer too, every tour, and overall.

wech.

i dont see retirement with them still doing big business on the summer circuit.
they will most likely tour again this summer
hopefully with only 1 other act how about triumph\journey with each doing an hour 45 min set.

I'm no talking about ditching Arnel. I'm saying in two more years, they might want to take the option of Retiring the Band on a high note. Arnel got them back on the charts, got Jon Neal mega royalties from the back catalog selling again. A good time to wind down the next two years and end it on a success.

I was reacting to CarlitoH's comment about doubt in Neal's mind.

I personally think they'll release another album.
THEN, if the album tanks, they'll plan to go on a grand farewell tour,
after taking a break to negotiate with as many former Journey-men
willing to grace it.

That easily means more than 3 years

Who is he talking to - Katie Couric? Rolling Stone Magazine? VH1 Classic? If he's talking to people in his homeland, what does it matter? Journey has never toured over there before Arnel that I am aware of, and Arnel is the local hero - not Journey.

If Arnel was here in the States talking Journey with news people, you can bet that Schon & Associates would be on it.

He DID talk about future plans to people here in the states, via webcam I believe, this past
weekend at some event. I think Dan or Rip posted about it.

Hey, I didn't say I believe it. But I just "wondered out loud"
about something. You never know w/Schon.

As for a farewell, I say throw as much $$$ at Perry, Rolie & Smitty
as they can, plan a 20 city tour with 3-4 nights in between for
Perry to rest, maybe add the "Symphony effect" and film
a grand DVD for psterity!

That was when the Queen or Santana thing came up. Queen didn't make any sense being mentioned as a possible touring partner as they would have to be the headliner. I don't know if Arnel was told this or just overheard something and was throwing it out there with out any clarification.

If they decide to hang it up after their next album, it won't be Schons doing. He'll tour until he dies if he has it his way.

I was thinking put the Journey name to bed and then Neal goes and does his own thing, whether it be bluegrass, jazz or whatever. A lot of older guitarist seem to be doing great touring by themselves, playing small clubs with an occasional guest vocalist.

Arnel should be a big enough star to have his own little lunchtime show in the Philippines by then.

...solid info from this band?

We used to get post from Neal, he even had us help him name the AP album; but then he started getting hateful post from fans, well sort of fans, so those stopped. Can't blame him.

Recently he, or Lori, have posted pics from the tour...but nuttin other than that.

During the Augeri era, he posted some and Jeff posted some and now Arnel is posting some.

Guess we'll know more when we know more.
