OT: Creed to reunite?

From 'Ultimate-Guitar.com':

As first tipped last month, Creed is hammering out details for a lucrative 2009 reunion tour, sources tell Billboard. The Scott Stapp-led group, which was one of the top sellers of the past decade, has not performed since a rancorous split in June 2004.

Stapp promptly embarked on a solo career, while guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and original bassist Brian Marshall formed Alter Bridge with vocalist Myles Kennedy and released two albums. The 2004 Wind-Up debut, "One Day Remains," sold 496,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; a 2006 follow-up for Universal, "Blackbird," has moved 227,000.

However, Kennedy is rumored to be the top contender to replace Robert Plant for a tour with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. And following a recent USO tour performing for American servicemen oversees, Stapp is said to be in prime physical and mental condition.

As such, there are "significant dollars" on the table for a Creed trek, according to sources close to the situation, who say an official announcement could be imminent. A spokesperson for Wind-Up tells Billboard, "There have been some talks, but it would be premature to comment on them at this time."

A shame if AB is done. I loved both of thier albums.
If Stapp hasn't changed, this could be a trainwreck-in-waiting
like the last Van Hagar tour

I liked some of Creed's stuff for the first five minutes back when... but for the most part I've liked AlterBridge better.

I don't see Scott Stapp pulling himself together. That would be a miracle. I say trainwreck somewhere along the tour.

"Stapp promptly embarked on a solo career" which fizzled out very quickly.

Marble mouth is correct.

My wife will go nuts if this ends up being true. She has always been a mega fan of Creed.

ALTER BRIDGE Frontman: 'I Am Not Singing For LED ZEPPELIN' - Dec. 1, 2008

Austrian heavy 'zine Stormbringer.at conducted an interview with vocalist Myles Kennedy and guitarist Mark Tremonti of ALTER BRIDGE prior to the band's November 27, 2008 concert in Vienna, Austria. Watch the 13-minute chat below.

Mark Tremonti recently spoke with Music Radar about the possibility of his former band CREED reuniting next year if ALTER BRIDGE singer Myles Kennedy goes on tour with the instrumental members of LED ZEPPELIN, as has been heavily rumored. First, regarding Kennedy's chances, Tremonti said, "We all have to be real hush-hush about it. We hear the rumors; we know what everybody's saying; but as far as what's really happening... I don't really know. Nobody does. The only thing I can say is that, no matter what happens next year, it'll be for the ultimate benefit of ALTER BRIDGE. ALTER BRIDGE is our number one priority. Nothing has changed that in anybody's mind."

As for a CREED reunion possibly going forward if Kennedy hits the road with LED ZEPPELIN, Tremonti said, "Who knows what can happen next year? 2009 could be one of the craziest years ever for us. Again, all I can say is that ALTER BRIDGE is still very much a band and we have every intention of carrying on."

CREED broke up in 2004, with Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips sticking together and forming ALTER BRIDGE, while singer Scott Stapp embarked on a solo career. Tremonti told The Pulse of Radio in 2005 that he could not envision CREED ever reuniting: "We've really stressed the point that CREED is never gonna happen again, and ALTER BRIDGE is our band, and this is the band that takes 100 percent of our time, and nobody's — you know, we haven't even spoken with Scott, so it's just not in our cards."
If Kennedy does go on tour with the members of ZEPPELIN, Tremonti insisted that he will remain a member of ALTER BRIDGE "without question."

ALTER BRIDGE plans to tour through the holidays and begin writing early next year for a follow-up to last year's "Blackbird"... unless LED ZEPPELIN and CREED get in the way.

Reports of ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham jamming with other singers first surfaced a few months back, after Robert Plant made it clear he was not interested in doing a LED ZEPPELIN tour anytime soon.

big friggin' deal. Their singer is the biggest jerkoff I've ever seen in a band. Worse than Axl ever was.

well i think everyone knows that one of the big reasons creed broke up is scott stapp was real doped up on pain pills and drinking and did some real off the wall stuff at a concert in chicago back in 2003 and the audience actually sued the band for refunds because stapp was so fucked up and incoherent.i also think stapp developed an ego the size of the grand canyon and that plus other factors lead to the group splitting up.i think right before this incident someone in another car slammed into the back of him at a stop sign and he was injured.then he ballooned to around 250 pounds and then his wife left him so that whole period was fucked up for the band.from 1997-2003 when they were active they sold a shitload of albums.about 30 million sold plus every album hit number one so they'll be a shitload of sellouts if they have a reunion as long as stapp doesn't start pulling an axl rose.......

Wasn't he the dude that invested all of the band's upfront bonus money when they signed with their label in a pyramid scheme and lost it all? Thought I remember something about that. What an idiot.

Im hoping that Alter Bridge doesnt end. They need to tour the US or at least South Florida. I think AB rocks. I remembering reading when AB formed Termontii said he was very happy for Creed but now ( with AB) he was doing music he wanted to do and it wasn't for the $$$. There two cds were great in my opinion, saw them twice in concert, the first one was there second show ever at the HOB in Orlando. The Cds never seemed to be marketed that heavy and Im not sure if any of the songs got alot of airplay. I saw move over Creed and push ahead with AB!!!!

Creed was far better than Pearl Jam and though Stapp isn't a great singer, he's still far better than Eddie Vedder.

It's kinda funny how now it seems the be the "in" thing to rip on Creed but most of the people doing it now were listening to them back then and probably still do.
