WKRP in Cincinnati

Happened to see part of an episode of "WKRP in Cincinnati" this evening. Haven't seen that show in years! Herb Tarlek was at the radio station standing in front of a giant promotional poster talking to the station manager. The artwork on the wall started to look familiar. Sure enough, it was the Journey "Infinity" poster, probably six feet tall.

I guess the episode first-aired January 10, 1981 -- the heyday of pre-Escape Journey. :D

It was actually a huge DEPARTURE poster not Infinity (I caught the episode as well).
Oh, and Herb was speaking with the lovely and often overlooked Bailey Quarters at the time (and not the station manager).

I love WKRP but unfortunately, when they replay it these days MUCH of the original music has been replaced with generic recordings by studio musicians. The production company would not spend the extra dollars necessary to license the original tunes, so there are times when instead of Les Nessman daydreaming while Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" is blasting through your TV, we now get a generic instrumental fill-in song.
This is even the case on the WKRP DVD's!

I don't know if this bothers anyone else, but it's the reason that I won't purchase those DVD's. Instead of adding bonus footage, the DVD's actually have LESS material than was originally broadcast on television as some musical scenes had to be cut completely.

That's interesting - didn't know that. I used to watch that show every week back in the 70s (I think it started in the late 70s), but have rarely caught an episode since.

My favorite episode was the Thanksgiving turkey give away where the dropped turkeys from a helicopter and they thought turkeys could fly. Les Nesman was broadcasting from the ground like it was the "Hindenberg" disaster. Oh the carnage!

Music licensing has butchered, delayed or stalled many a DVD boxset.

WKRP on DVD is widely regarded to be one of the worst because the video tape medium made it difficult to actually remove and replace some of the music. So instead, they'll often cut sections of scenes out. :-(

I was always more of a Bailey Quarters fan than a Jennifer Marlowe fan .....

.... but, in a pinch, I'd take either one. :D

On another note, when I was in college, my roommate and I used the Les Nessman method of marking out our areas with masking tape on the floor.

Second time today that I've heard WKRP mentioned. I heard that a TV station in Cincinnati has now changed their call letters to WKRP.

Did you use an "imaginary door" too?

I wouldn't make it in a dorm. I'm too anal. People leaving their shit laying around gets to me, very quickly.

Before the episode aired on WGN this weekend, they had a guy in Cincinnati interviewing a few people on the street. His question was... "Jennifer or Bailey?"

No one even gave the most obvious answer. It's both dammit!

One of the radio stations here in the Cleveland area always plays that "God as my witness I thought turkey's could fly" line around Thanksgiving each year.

Anyone remember the "I've got a monkey on my foot" line? Or the "tastes like lizard spit" line? Those were from different episodes, though.

Can you find a smaller av on ebay? :D  Seriously, I was just telling another poster, it crowds the page if it's not 200 pixels or under in width. Or, like I also told him, you can just tell me to piss off.

I tried finding a clip of the "I've got a monkey on my foot" episode, but had no luck. That was one of the most hillarious moments on that show. "Come on Andy, everyone enjoys a little Coke every now and then" or something like that. "What do you think Carlson will do with it?" "I don't know, he'll probably put it on his feet or something". Funny shit.

Imaginary door?!?!? .... That would've been totally geeky. :D

He was actually a good roommate. Unlike another guy I had to spend a semester with. By the time I moved in, he had every square inch of wall and door pasted with obnoxious heavy metal posters. Every ..... square ..... inch. Floor to ceiling. And some on the ceiling too.
