Favorite ballads that aren't '80s "power ballads"

Postby Ehwmatt » Tue Dec 16, 2008 10:43 pm

Subject kinda says it all... nothing from Journey, Toto, Chicago etc. that fit that 80s band/melodic rock mold to a T... mine:

Don Henley - Heart Of The Matter
Don Henley - Last Worthless Evening
Don Henley - Taking You Home
Don Henley - For My Wedding
Don Henley - End of the Innocence
Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - My Eyes Adored You
The Raspberries - I Can Remember
Eagles - I Can't Tell You Why
Dan Fogelberg - Same Auld Lang Syne
Burton Cummings - Stand Tall
Burton Cummings - You Saved My Soul
Todd Rundgren - Can We Still Be Friends?
America - Daisy Jane
Graham Nash - I'll Be There For You
Robert Lamm - When The Rain Becomes

Just a few that come to mind... Henley really is a master of this type of song, especially on his solo outings.

Mute Math did a remake (more like a completely new version) of the Transformers theme song a couple of years ago. I wanted that song to make it into the movie sooooo bad, but it never happened. I've find the youtube clip to throw on here, but I can't access it from work. Very cool song!

Two immediately popped to mind, and they are not what you'd expect -- Petra's "Not Of This World" and "Graverobber" -- two of the most beautiful acoustic guitar ballads I've ever heard. Also, just about everything from Don Dokken's Solitary -- no joke.

In order for me to answer this question, I'll need an operational definition of 'Power Ballad', please.....
