Got a call this morning from a good friend of mine in Japan. Excited saying that they heard Journey is planning to do a show in Japan this March. Anyone heard of this yet?

3/11 Osaka Kosei-nenkin Kaikan - 2,400 seats

This is part of the Asian tour, which seems to consist of only 3 shows (these two and one in Manila). They usually played 5 or 6 shows in the past, so I don't know why the tour is so small this time.

It must have changed. I read over on Arnel's site Arnel said it was three nights back-to-back in Japan.

The one in the Philippines, I think, is 30,000 capacity. So maybe that's why they've got Arnel all over the TV there, to create the hype and fill those seats.

Yeah, the Nagoya show is missing, which is a shame, because the two venues listed have very limited seating.

Not to be a pisser, but you have got to be high on dope to book this. 7400 seats? The fucking plane ride over there will cost more than they can make. Even that 30K seater, which they will nowhere get close to filled, still only brings the numbers up to maybe 25K total. They must have the idea of seeing how these sell, and plan on adding more shows. This is pathetic.

Journey back in the day, was huge in Japan, playing multiple nights in Tokyo and Osaka.

During Frontiers, I think they did three sold out shows in a row at Budokan, which would be 45,000 total tickets.

It apears the Nagoya show is back on for the 10th. It will be at the Chuo Daigaku Bunka Shimin Kaikan Aurora Hall (say that three times fast). So three shows in a row, two day break then the show at Manila. Hopefully going from the cold air in Japan to performing outside in killer humidity in the Philippines won't be too rough on him or his vocal cords.

That sure isn't alot of seats at either location, are you sure about those numbers? I don't think there's any public auditorium in Japan with low seating like that, except on the U.S. bases maybe. Either way, they play in Japan this March, I'm there! I already am planning to go back to Japan in April, I'll just move my travel dates up just to make the show. I would probably go to the Osaka showing, just cause it's smaller.

The tickets already went on sale for these venues, the sizes are correct. Journey isn't even in the top 100 album sales in Japan, so that probably explains the limited shows and smaller venues. Perry and Journey were all over Japanese TV back in the day. The only TV Arnel has been on lately has been Philippine Variety shows. Not much of a marketing effort for the rest of Asia.

I guess the only good out of that would be that I can get a seat up in front. I went to Show Ya back in 2005 and paid $250 for my seat right up next to the stage. Hope I can get the same good seat for less at Journey's show. I'll have to wear my CalJam's T-shirt, the one I got back in the Philippines in 1987. Never wore it, I guess going to a Journey show in Japan to watch Arnel would be the best way to finally break it in, twenty two years later. And lucky me....I'm still the same size now as I was back then.

Looking at the Japan Billboard charts for 2008, apparently not much. Sp led Journey was on Japanese TV Variety and Game shows and where ever else Herbie could put them. The marketing department seems to have fallen short this time. They're spending so much effort trying to get Arnel's own people on board they've forgotten the rest of the Asian Market.
All for one show in Manila.

Let's just say there were more bootleg albums there then were legitmate ones by far, and knowing that fact, I had concern that Journey wouldn't be getting a fair shake at album sales in the Philippines.

I was just reading Arnel's comments from his last shoutbox session. He said he was a little disappointed in the Philippine music industry. I think despite all the T V appearances on local Filipino shows, the public's reception is still lukewarm in his home country. I felt sorry for him after reading his comments.
On another note he doesn't know what Journey's plans are after the Manila show as far as touring.

performance. You did understand that people were consoling him and telling him how much we love him in the states.
He tried to temper his remarks at the end of the session but he was spot on. because he doesn't dance or have the boy next door look, he wasn't fitting into what they like to promote over there. I guess you are a seeing it a different way but someone who posted the vid at the official site had this to say:
"What a rock star performance! Never mind the audience. They don't deserve someone like him, IMHO.

That came from a filiipno fan. His true fans are here in the states or OFW's as far as I'm concerned. But of course, that's just my opinion.

It doesn't appear so. Arnel said in the shoutbox he doesn't know what their plans are after the show in Manila. I guess theyll take some more time off and prepare for a summer tour.

Yeah, I got what the fans were saying and the question about the lackluster audience and how they love him. But I got mixed up in what he was saying regarding disappointmentwise b/c his statements get split up so much with all the interruptions. I get confused easily.

Just look at these hosts, who are all singers, in the Arnel clips. There is nothing in common with him, but these people are the entertainment Idols of the Philippines. If AP's manager, Bert De Leon didn't have serious pull with ABS/CBN, Arnel would barely be on T.V. over there IMO.
Arnel deseves to make it over here so he can tell the Philippine Entertainment Industry to kiss his little brown ass.

Journey has been over for years ! Jeff put a spark on the radar but Neal & or Jon shot down that hope.

Tell that to all the people that attended their concerts this year. Many sold out concerts. Successful CD, which received good reviews.
