This song gets a lot of discussion because it was included on Revelation disc 1.

People wonder why it wasn't on disc 2 because it's already been recorded.

My reasoning is because disc 2 was the greatest hits, and Faith In The Heartland, as good of a song as it is, doesn't qualify as a Greatest Hit.

So, why did they redo it?

As many know, or basically everyone, Generations was a definite bomb, publicly. A lot of us like it, but overall, the general public know nothing about it. Faith In The Heartland is a song that needed another chance. So they gave it one.

Whether or not you prefer AP's version of it, I think giving that song another chance was a brilliant idea. At least more people are hearing it.

I have a friend who thinks the same way; just loves the new version. I disagree. Completely. Of course, he also prefers Cain's version of "Faithfully" over the original, too. The bottom line is that the production of the song is better on Revelation, sure. And Arnel's voice is naturally stronger than Augeri's and has the benefit of being put to the forefront of the song.

But the drawbacks overshadow the advantages: namely, the song is much slower and lacks the urgency of the original version. Worse yet, though Arnel is without a doubt a superior vocalist, the original FitH was one of Augeri's finest moments, and I didn't enjoy Arnel's phrasing of the lyrics or the opening scream nearly as much. Worst of all, Jonathan Cain is on keyboards on this song.

Why?

The rhythm guitar was much better and added to the rock feel. I think Jon gets to hit two keys throughout the whole song until the very end in the drum riff. And that is stupid. Completely and utterly.

No matter who's version you prefer, my point was, giving that song another chance was a great idea. It couldn't have been put on the rerecorded GH, so they did what they thought was best for the song.

Remember, Walmart wanted only the GH and maybe 3 or 4 new songs for the deal. Journey did the rest. I think their choice was very admirable. Revelation turned out to be a damn good album.

I disagree. FITH is a much stronger song than LITYB. I would assume they were marketing that album to the US primarily.

How much do people play this album now? Thought it was good at the time, but it got old pretty quickly.

I liked the new "Place in Your Heart" much better than the new "Faith in the Heartland." I prefer both the originals, but I thought the new PIYH was at least a worthy counterpart to the original.

I simply think Augeri's version was much better. They pussified the song beyond a reasonable doubt. But I'm exactly opposite towards the re-recorded TPiYH. It's much better.

I think it rocks a bit harder, and the vocals are stronger as well. Not a big fan of the song overall though.

Personally, I thought the intro and outro on that song rocked, but for the sake of radio play they could have eliminated those parts of the song.

Good policy by Neal, if that was the case. State of Grace rocks, but has shitty lyrics, and Augeri sounds like he's depressed on that tune. The Time could not be a more direct rip off of Stranglehold in the beginning. I was embarrassed as a Journey fan when I heard it the first time.

Yeah. "I Can Breathe" had enough pop to it to be a song made for radio play. It was a great pop/rock song. And I really liked Neal's solo there.

The Generations one is better.
As stated before it's faster, more urgent, rocks harder and is MAYbe the vocal of Augeri's career. Agressive, menacing, powerful, confident.

Pineda's vocal on the song DOES stack up well but the replacing of one of the guitars with keys puts it a clear second for me.

BG vox seem more chiorlike/pussified and less gang-like/empassioned on the Revelation one. But again the biggest issue for me is the switch from a rythm guitar to more keys.

The difference is not in the singers as both Augeri and Pineda put on terrific performances, it's what they were/weren't doing w/ the rest of the song.
