I voted no in the poll about recording "PIMH" from the Zoo which led to this thread.

If there's another album, most likely it'll be the last with original material. Since I know TPTB peruse MR, here's what I'd like to see.

1. Quality material, as good or better than Revelation or don't release it.
2. 90% original (if reworking anything, make it from the 1st 3 (pre-perry) albums.
3. 10-12 new tracks. Don't add mediocrity just to fill it (ala Generations).
4. Do within the next couple years (before Pineda's vocals deteriorate).

5. Lastly 3 bonus tracks: If you know for a fact it'll be the last one, invite Augeri, JSS and Rolie to cut one track each.

JSS on a rocker.
Rolie on a duet with Pineda on a Santana style track.
Close it out with Augeri on a ballad.

Hopefully they will put out a few really nice albums over the next few years that only contain new original music before they do a last album.

All I ask is that the production quality is as good as or better than Revelation. I didn't like the production on Generations AT ALL. I know some of you will crucify me for this, but I like polish, I like the bells and whistles. If I want to hear "live-ish", I'll go see them "live-ish". LOL

Just don't let Cain Produce. Even though the re-treads had a cleaner sound because of modern recording equipment, the production was shit, especially the sound of the instruments.

I like the polished sounds with bells and whistles myself. I really do not care for live-ish albums either. The only live album that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to was one by The Cure, not saying they are the only one, just one I've heard that I liked. Metalica was another that sounded pretty damn good live also. Lot's of music that I loved hearing on the later Beatles albums was great on the album, but couldn't be played live because of all the studio work that was involved on the album production.

I guess it all boils down to a great band, vocalist and really outstanding sound system and technicians running everything will make a live-ish performance sound good.

Man, the backing vocals are one of the biggest issues I have with Revelation. It makes me question all the time whether or not I really like NWA; you can barely hear Deen and the boys... and the backing vocals are supposed to be one of the staples of the song itself.

Would this problem be because of who released it, Wal-Mart? The masters are somewhere and I'm wondering if it's released by a different vendor, would these issues be adjusted accordingly?

NWA sounds like it was produced separately from the rest of Disc 1. It sounds muddled to me.

I go back and forth on it. Sometimes I feel that it's a kickass song with a really rugged guitar riff and a great solo. Journey's rockers have traditionally been "feel good", so it didn't bother me that the song was one at its core. Then other times I feel that it's softer than what I thought and that Neal sounds ridiculously thin on the solo. I like the song at its best when it's played in the car; it's not that good on my iPod.

No, it's just the way Shirley produced it. It's not like the older albums which were produced with inferior equipment. Sony was able to have Perry really clean up those albums. Revelation probably sounds exactly like what the producer wanted. Well Disc 1 anyway, Disc 2 is a throw away disc and Cain's production shows it.

No matter how good it is, it won't sell as well as Revs for obvious reasons. Pineda will never reach Perry's legendary status so its a moot point anyway.

I know some disagree with having JSS on a track but it'd be a classy thing to do. Rolie's obvious.

Yes, its contradictory to my request to not make it another Generations free for all but I'm talking bonus tracks here. Disc 2 if they want another marketing ploy.

Dude, after the TBF debacle, I'm not sure a whiff would be convincing enough. They'd set up at the first show with Arnel on standby to see if he showed up.

I honestly don't think so. I personally believe that it would depend on how committed Perry is and if his voice is up to snuff.

I'm wondering now if there would be a difference in the recording levels between the album released by Wal-Mart and the one released in Japan under the King Records label. The album released in Japan is in a hard case with an outter paper sleeve.

Would King Records have a shot at receiving masters and then retuning a few things before mass producing it in Japan? Because they already have one additional song on disc one on the Japanese release then they do on the U.S. release.

Sorry, that last part is a bad idea. They would have to call it 'A Journey Carol' for including the ghosts of Journey's
past . They should save it for the musical.

I do like the idea of Rolie contributing in a duet, but they can go beyond revisiting the Santana sound which
doesn't belong in Journey. If you want to hear a modern version of Neal and Rolie playing the Santana
sound you can always listen to Abraxas Pool.

Plus bringing in so many additional people on an album, wouldn't that create a bit of a royalty sharing nightmare? I could see the previous people being paid according to their past percentages, as in a grandfathered clause type of situation.

Get Perry to produce...like he should have been doing all along. I like Kevin Shirley, but when Perry tired of the stage, he should have simply moved to the studio and groomed his own replacement.
