God Bless President Obama...

As most of you know I am a conservative independent, and did not vote for the President, never the less, I pray for him to be successful, and safe.

I believe the election of Barrack Obama is a defining point for our country, not because of his policies and agenda, but because of what it truly represents: There is no barrier, obstacle or challenge that we as a nation cannot overcome.

God Bless you Mister President, may you guide us well and true and live up to the promise of you convictions and achieve much.

I will pray for his safey and the safety of his family. He will NEVER live up to the hype, so feel bad for him on that level. I also can't wait to see people's reactions when they come to the harsh realization that him being president will not change or improve their existence one iota.

I wish him well and pray for the safety of him and his family as well. Obama being president really won't change the existence of the true believers one iota, but it may change their perception of their existence, and we all know that old adage about perception being reality....

LOL Regardless of which side of the isle I happen to sit on, the election of Barrack Obama to the Presidency is an amazing thing and should be celebrated. IMHO!

This was not a defining point. There haven't been barriers or obstacles for years. The only possible defining point is the left has no more excuses.

Cool. This is the first time I've agreed with you on a political issue. :)
Jeez, a guy in my office (repub) is already all over Obama for stumbling on the oath.... here we go....

I stopped in a gas station in Schiller Park, IL one night headed out of town for Christmas. The Bears-Packers game was on and I'd accidentally worn my green fleece under my coat. The guy at the counter was ribbing me about if I was wearing Packer green or not and when I'd convinced him I wasn't, a snarled up looking black guy working the other register held up a postcard with Obama on it and said, "Do you like this guy?"

... ...

I gathered my thoughts searching for the right way to handle this situation, wishing I had chosen to fuel up in a less opinionated area. I looked at the man and said, "You know... I don't know him. So I can't judge him. I didn't vote for him, but I didn't vote for the other guy either because I was never sold on it. But, if he can do half the pretty shit he's talking up, then Godspeed to him."

The man looked at me, chuckled and said "I can't stand the pretentious son-of-a-bitch. But I agree with you."

...So, that's where I stand. God Bless America, and our elected leader as well.

Ok, I never said a word about this during the election, but now that he's offically our commander in chief, I think as Americans, we should all know how to spell his name. One 'R' and a 'C' before the 'K' in "Barack" guys. :o

I agree too! It's spelled with a C not F, and it's AIN not RIGA. "Cain."

It is ABSOLUTELY a defining point. I agree the left is now out of excuses, the are in complete control of our Government, sans the SCOTUS, but for our nation, politics aside, the election of a black man to the Presidency is a tremendous thing.

In 1968 a great man was SHOT for saying he wanted his people to be equal in all ways, now 40 years later a black man is President. We have come a long way from Selma, and Little Rock and Memphis in the intervening years.

I have a similar experince. I was driving through Green bay about five years ago and th gas station attendant gave m a funny look. ( Stopped at Hardees or Arbys or some such joint) for some breakfeast and just got stares. WHat the fuck is wrong with these people. Assholes I thought. I decided to stop by Lambeau field just to see it and check out the Packers shop. The shop assistant just said, Gawd your brave, wearing that thing in here!!. I looked down, and of cours I was wearing a Vikings jersey- it mad sudden sence why people are being mean.

On Obama, I agree with the others - hes the President now, and deserves my our support for that simple reason. Best of luck.

It wasn't a Packers fleece though, it was just green... granted I own a LOT of Green Bay swag from the Favre years but I know better to wear it: A.) In Chicago and B.) On Packer/Bears weekend. The first GB/CHI game this year I was actually IN Green Bay AT the game and the night before my friend and I were riding around town and she told me we had to be careful since we had Illinois plates. She's from there originally, but lives in the burbs here now. She says WI state troopers will pull an Illinois plate just because... and driving in Green Bay with Illinois tags on Packer/Bear weekend is a death wish.

But back to topic, yes... Barack is Mr. President now. And if you can't support him, he at least should have the respect his office deserves. 8)

Wasn't a member here in 2000 or 2004 ... read the whole sentence, including the "and hold him accountable" part. Healthy democracy depends on informed, active engagement on both sides of the aisle and all sides of the issues. For things to improve, people have to work together on things they can support and work to change things they disagree with; most of all, they have to work ... sitting on the sidelines lobbing grenades is self indulgent and doesn't get the job done. In my bullshit opinion, of course.

If Obama offers hope, that's a lot more than what Bush had to offer.

Our economy is based mainly on perception. We don't have gold backing our currency anymore. Most everything regarding the U.S. economy is based on a feeling, and perception equals reality. If people feel like there is hope for prosperity and peace on the horizon, they will spend freely. If people feel insecure and fearful about their future, they will stop spending. It's really simple. If Obama can hype people into feeling hopeful about their future and give them a cause to works towards - 80% of the battle on the poor economy is over with.

Perception can only take you so far. If he does ever decide to raise taxes like he wants to, especially with a shaky economy at best, I think we may see reality outweigh perception.

read what the good dr. fu has written!! right on 8)

president obama said it in his address this morning- we have to work, each one of us are responsible for restoring the nation and can not expect the government to do it for us.

i truly believe we have a man in office that will inspire many more americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and work to improve their lives. At the same time he seems to be compassionate and understands some need help in getting those bootstraps. i voted for barack obama and i am feeling very good today. i am not one that lives with her head in the clouds and will absolutely hold this president, as i have others before him, accountable for his actions. for today i will float on the historical and monumental actions that i have witnessed.

Out taxes were higher with Clinton but at least we had jobs to pay the taxes with. Clinton was a huge bullshitter, and that's what made the USA have the largest budget surplus in history. Hype and bullshitting drives our economy. Bush wasn't good at it.
