I personally find this pretty pathetic.

I'd say maybe, just maybe, Mom could help and encourage this girl to find a worthwhile hobby, or a part-time job, or something, lol...

You've obviously never seen how three teenage girls hold a phone conversation with each other if this surprises you. I once had an 18 yr old flatmate who ran up $300+ in phone bills in 10 days, and that was at 10c a call.

Funny how people like this never miss an opportunity to get on the tv or in the papers.

I'm thinking you're right. Here was the part that got to me... the mother heard of some girl in TX that had 34,000 texts in a month and she called the news to report that her daughter had more! Um... you're bragging about the wrong thing there, mom! Who the hell are these parents and why are they not taking the damn phones away? They said averaged over a 31 day month, upwards of 40k texts is a text PER minute. When is this kid doing schoolwork and chores? I'm sorry but kids are TOO damn spoiled.

Sheesh, I used to get screamed at for talking on the phone for more than 10 minutes. (on our rotary phone!)

Eggs-actly.

Like I said, pathetic...and Mom is clearly a couple o' cans short of a twelve-pack upstairs. Not cool but just sad.

Yep- 10 minutes was my limit too. I can imagine when this girl turns into an adult that she'd ever be good at any job that took a second's worth of her focus.

Johnroxx- I love your avatar. Reminds me of Dane Cook's stand up routine on being abducted.

Listen kids, sure texting is a good way to keep in touch. Let little Sally know you're going to be a few minutes late to meet at the Jamba Juice. Or the modern equivalent to passing notes in class. But if you're texting someone back and forth more than say, 5 times in a 5 minute period and you're both available to talk, DIAL THE NUMBER.

Holy cow, and to think I felt bad when I ran up 3000 minutes (and $250) on my cell back in 10th grade.

I can't even imagine 41,000 texts?! I'm sure my daughter does between 1000-2000 texts which seems like a lot to me. LOL, she gets a huge laugh out of me texting, she can probably do 10 texts in the time it takes me to do 1. Of course, it's probably cuz I've just gotta spell the whole words out and capitalize. :P

Thanks, Suz...just something I copped off a Google search. 8)

I've never seen Cook do a whole show; I'll have to check out YouTube I guess to try and find his "abduction" routine.

i love across the room texting at concerts. there is less screaming!! hehehehehe

the texts during the recent TRACER X show were a prime example. talking or screaming is NOT possible. :?

i dunno..kids could be doing a lot worse things. My husband griped cuz my girls had the instant message boxes open all the time when they were teens--sometimes 6 or more IMs going at a time. I'm thinking it's not so bad cuz they are practicing their typing. 8) it worked cuz they breezed through their college days with miles and miles of papers to write.

as a teacher, however, texting during test taking is not cool. :x

I still find this staggering to believe... 1 per minute? Does the average include only waking hours, or 24/7? You'd have to spend a buttload of time doing nothing but texting back and forth, and it's just so freaking sad... And yes, really sad that the mother seems to think it's cool.

This is not the kids fault. It's the lame ass parental peeps in her life. Obviously this girl has more issues than publicly being tossed around. (Emotional, social acceptance, etc, etc) Very sad.
