After Manila

So what are Journey's plans after their one week of touring in March (Three Japan shows, one RP)? We know they have the "Invite only" show at the SuperBowl next week. So what are their Summer Plans? Heart, and Foreigner are starting their tours in earnest next month, Bryan Adams looks to be finishing up his tour. Who is Journey going on the road with or should they just perform by themselves at Casinos and smaller venues? Anyone have any inside scoop? More corporate gigs? Possible Studio time?

Doubt Pineda will have much input other than showing up and saying "I can still sing?!".

Unfortunately, they'll probably hit the road without a new album. They better get a standout opener though.

If they get Pride Tiger, I'm there.

Yeah, the opening act would have to be killer for me to go see the dirty dozen again without a new album. I think with the economy the way it is, a lot of acts are going to tour alone so they don't have to split the gate and just play smaller venues.

One thing is for sure. After all those duets on youtube, Open Arms has jumped the Shark. It was a gay song to begin with but Arnel and his singalong partners have buried it 6 feet under. Ann just wanted to be nice and picked the easiest song to sing along with as a favor to Arnel and now the song has been just destroyed over the last 3 months. Remember when Barry sang it and we thought it couldn't get any worse? Well, Filipino TV proved us wrong on that one.
Just drop this song from the setlist please. It has been defiled enough already.

I doubt they will drop Open Arms. No one in the general Journey concert going public has ever heard all those duets in the Philippines except MR and Journey site and Arnel's fan site.

Didn't Journey cancel all of their shows? I thought I read that somewhere. If that's the case, I wonder what the status of the band is, and if there's even going to BE a Journey? Anyone know?

Cancel what shows? They're touring in Asia, and are planning to tour this summer. Arnel said his family will be with him for part of the tour this time. He said after the tour this year they will begin working on the new album late in the fall.

I read from Manila Bulletin last sunday, Arnel mentioned journey mgt is targetting at least 14 shows in Europe. He also mentioned after their Manila concert, Neal is planning to stay longer in Manila. Arnel kidded Neal wants to live with him, he wants to be his lover haha...wow Neal is really that eager to see Arnel's input on their new album. Arnel said he loves to write and he'll see if it will work.

It will be interesting to see if they mesh writing songs Journey style. If not, I'm fine with it. Let Neal and Jon write and Arnel sing the hell out of the songs. Either way it's all good just so long as they really take their time with this one and build on what they acheived with Revelation. 8)

Classic Rock is quite popular in Europe, probably more so than the states. It seems there is some kind of Hard Rock Festival every month. Smart business move.

Hey...don't :? Me! I read that here in the forum a couple of weeks ago! Someone here said that they had removed all dates from the website (or something to that effect). I'm not trying to stir the pot, I'm just honestly wondering what's going on. And don't ever take that tone with me again!

What's wrong with stirring the pot? It's nice to have a little bit of a change up around here once in a while. A few unconfirmed rumors here and there, get a little tempest going on.

My bad...I was just curious about what you meant by them canceling all of their shows. That's what I get for using a smiley instead of words. I know that these dates were never up on the official website, which baffles me. Tickets for these shows are on sale, and they're not even listed on the "On The Road" page. I know the official website has never been good at anything, really, but come on. Tickets are for sale for shows you have no record of!

Speculation time! Fun stuff...

Whitesnake is supposedly going to tour the United States in 2009. Maybe they will be opening for Journey? I would be there! 2 or 3 shows for me, at LEAST.

Other bands - Night Ranger, Heart, REO, Styx, Foreigner, Leppard, etc. have either released at least a handful of American dates for 09 or are already part of a touring package.

Whitesnake and Journey - I say it's a winner!

There was a thread a while back where SJ said that Bryan Adams is supposed to be a front-runner for a spot on Journey's upcoming tour. I think Foreigner might also be a possibility. They are in Europe in June, but if the tour started after July 3 they could be on the bill. I'd love to see either of these two opening for Journey. I've seen Foreigner with Kelly Hansen twice and he kills it live.

I think Brian Adams would co-headline w Journey at the least. I don't know why he would open for them.

You could be right, but I think that in the US Bryan Adams opens for Journey. In Europe, Journey opens for Bryan Adams. Although it could be a co-headlining tour with both bands getting equal time but Journey playing second each night. I know BA alternated the closing spot with Def Leppard on their co-headlining tour, but I think that after last year's tour Journey's going to be the big draw.

That was my post - I asked if the dates had been cancelled, because the mini-tour with Lani, the Superbowl,
and the concerts in March in Japan and the Philippines had been posted on Arnel's official website in the
Events section for quite a while, but they have been removed. The only event he still has listed is for a
charity dinner/dance for his foundation on February 28. So I was concerned that Journey is already cancelling
shows and wondering what was going on. I thought it could be technical/site problems, but the concert dates
have not been reposted.

They won't drop Open Arms for at least two reasons I can think of. One, it's one of the easiest classic Journey tunes to sing and two, it's one of the classic Journey tunes that pretty much everyone loves to hear. And three shows in Japan? My contacts in Japan tell me only two - Tokyo and Osaka. Which other one is there? Logic tells me that the Tokyo show should be two nights. So two in Tokyo and one in Osaka would be logical.

The band must be using the Shinkensan then for it's transportation cause they can catch it in Shen-Yokohama which is not that far from Tokyo, and the second stop once that fucker takes off is Nagoya (I think), which is then followed by Shen-Osaka. Tickets are relativily cheap - $250 USD per person round trip. Plus they will have Japanese stewardesses carting around refreshments on those same type of deals they use on the airlines. Pretty fun way to travel around in Japan.

He co-headlined about as much as Journey did with Leppard. I believe he opened every show. Call it what you want, but that makes him the opener.
