OT-Seinfeld Fans (Newman)

I find it interesting that we never found out if Newman was his first or last name. We learned about Cosmo Kramer(who is my favorite TV character of all-time), but never about Newman's real name.

What do you think it may have been?

Discuss.

Newman is a secondary character on the television show Seinfeld. He is played by Wayne Knight. Like fellow Seinfeld character Cosmo Kramer, Newman is addressed by last name, a fact Newman revealed in episode 44, The Ticket. Unlike Kramer, Newman's first name is never mentioned.

Whoa, Rick! Thanks. I didn't ever remember that, and I'm embarrased to say so.

Maybe his first name was Randy.

He's also referred to as "Mr. Newman" in the last season. So that's something at least in terms of it being his last name.

Unless you live in the south. Here, teachers have the students call them "Mrs Debbie, or Mr. Jim". Most stupid crap I've ever heard! No wonder we're the 48th state in education.

And what the hell is wrong with a little casually respectful addressing, Mister Jimbob?

I'll leave that for an entirely NEW thread...don't get me going!

I don't think Newman had any other name on the show and pretty sure Newman was his last name cause everybody pretty much hated the fucker except for Kramer. When people aren't close to a specific person, they just call them by their last name. I think they did this with the Newman charactor for that aspect. Also take into consideration that Newman was a postal worker, where he may have just had his last name on his uniform, and that's how people may have got to know him, by his last name. What did they call the postal worker who was a regular icon at the bar "Cheers"? Did his friends call him by his last name? How about strangers on the show, or when people were mad at him in a episode, did they stop calling him by his first name and only by his last name? That information could hold clues as to why Newman was only known as Newman on Seinfeld.

Seinfeld's pretty much the very last show I used to watch almost religiously while it was on. After the show ended, I stopped watching TV.

The ironic thing to me about you starting this thread today is that just yesterday I was talking with a friend of mine about the episode where you first found out that Kramer's first name is Cosmo.

If any of you saw Scrubs last night, there was that line where the janitor was thinking back to when he was a kid and he says that his grandfather called him "janitor."

Also on According To Jim you don't know what Jim's last name is supposed to be.

When you watch the Dirty Harry and Magnum Force movies with Clint Eastwood, most times when he's on someone's shit list and they are pissed at him, they just call him Callahan - "Callahan....I don't want any trouble like we had a year ago in the Fillmore district." But when things are cool, they call him Harry.

I guess things were never cool with Newman. I love Jerry's disdain when he says "Hello, Newman".

Yeah, Newman had his moments like when they kidnapped the dog and the other one when Kramer took the photo of the dude sitting on the shitter and they sent the pix to him in the mail. Those two episodes were hillarious, hell all the episodes were hillarious while we're bullshitting.
