Grayson Hugh...

I was heading to work this morning, listening to the radio (which I rarely do!) and heard this song. I though "Who the hell is this? Damn he sounds a LOT like Perry!" Obviously he's not an exact clone, but his vocals sound very similar to Perry's later years. This may have already been posted here, but I don't recall ever hearing his name come up.

The song is "Talk It Over", and I believe I read that it was released in '89. Very cool song. Hope you like it!

I liked it. I think it sounds like Steve Perry because it sounds like Sam Cooke. 8)

I remember this cat, and remember thinking of Perry too.
It's pure Sam Cooke. Good stuff.

Maybe Perry will cover it as a new tune addition on the next GH album.

later~

Thanks for the post - he's great! Wikipedia and a MySpace page both claim he is
releasing a new CD in 2009. I hope that's true, because he has a wonderful sound.

Funny you posted this. He's one of my faves. Hadn't listened to him in a couple years and broke out his last album (at least last that I know of) and been listening to it for the past couple days. It's called Road to Freedom. It was the follow up to Blind to Reason (the one with Talk it Over). I got over the Perry sound-a-like issue years ago with him.

Talk it Over was a different version of the Olivia Newton John song.

I purchased Grayson Hugh's CD when it originally came out in 88 or 89. He's a great vocalist. I looked for the cd in my stash a while back and couldn't find it though. I hope I didn't sell it at some point on eBay!!!

So let's see, we have this guy, an aging Sam Cooke sound-alike who hasn't been heard from in years and we have SMFP, an aging Sam Cooke sound-alike who hasn't been heard from in years both possibly releasing new CD's in '09. Hmmph. Curious indeed. 8)
