Springsteen calls Wal-Mart deal a mistake

01/30/2009 3:00 PM, AP
The Associated Press

The Boss is owning up to a mistake.

In an interview with Sunday's New York Times, Bruce Springsteen says he shouldn't have made a deal with Wal-Mart. This month, the store started exclusively selling a Springsteen greatest hits CD.

Some fans were critical because Springsteen has been a longtime supporter of worker's rights, and Wal-Mart has faced criticism for its labor practices.

Springsteen told the Times that his team didn't vet the issue as closely as he should have, and that he "dropped the ball on it."

Springsteen went on to say: "It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be."

Springsteen released his new CD "Working on a Dream" this week and is performing the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

I wonder if Jonny Friga and Neal Schon agree or do they think Bruce is out of his fucking mind; and for that matter Angus, Henley, Fry and even BA. This new CD will undoubtedly be number 1 and sell a shitload of cd's.

Other than being way too busy and making tons of cash, there's nothing wrong with Wal Mart. God bless 'em for not caving in to the unions.

I'm glad he supports workers rights. I have the right to work at Wal-Mart if I want to, and can get hired on there. I go there all the time and everyone working there looks to be doing of their own free will.

Well I work there because I need the money :?

The Eagles certainly DID NOT make a mistake with their WalMart deal and neither did Journey or AC/DC. All these bands have enjoyed their most successful CDs in years! WalMart sells records! FUCK the big labels!

the only reason Bruce is apologizing is cause his fans bitched... prolly the same ones who went to Walmart to buy their CD's

I don't think his fans complained about the walmart deal. They go shopping there every week. It was the union bigwigs who bitched about it.

You think I am wrong??? I know for a fact union officials for my brother in law union tells them not shop at Walmart or Aldi both non union stores. 98% of the union membership disregard the demand. The majority of Walmart shoppers belong to unions. BTW Bryan Adams had a iTunes and walmart exclusive this past spring. Now Walmart is selling that cd (11) for 5 dollars. Actually IMO a good cd.

lol.... i'm tired. i think that fans did voice displeasure over the deal. when dean first mentioned the deal to me, my reaction was "bad move." bruce sings about the working class, unions, etc. wal-mart isn't exactly pro union. i see it as hypocrisy. i don't think for a minute that union bigwigs strong armed bruce

I believe you are wrong Lula, Those same fans are the same ones shopping there. Bruce is full of hypocrisy and that is fact. Yes union officals let Bruce know of there displeasure.

Fuck off asshole. I don' have to defend anything. Bruce is the biggest star in music and has been for the last 25 years. I was looking to see who would post here, and of course the Cons got together and did so. I was making a point and you idiots missed it. Jester, you need to check yourself. Journey didn't really sell shit when you put them against ACDC, The Eagles and Bruce. Journey is not part of a real music conversation. No one outside this forum and BT take them seriously. They are simply irrelevant now.

My point was, that Bruce accepted responsibility, and said so publicly. He fucked up, and apologized.

I really feel sorry for you bitter conservatives.

Bruce is full of hypocrisy? There isn't a single artist more honest and sincere than Bruce Springsteen. There is a reason he has 40 times the fans than anyone else. You just made my point- he fucked up but ADMITTED IT. Journey would not admit to anything they have done wrong.

Are you also in tight with Springteen? BTW how;s that book coming along wasn't it supposed to be published this past year? lol

Asshole, I could write a Journey book in 4 days and nobody would buy it because no one cares. The shit I have on them is colossal. As for Bruce? No, not tight with him. By the way, are you somehow suggesting Journey has as many fans as Bruce?

I agree no one cares for any 80's band to buy their book especially from you. Maybe your good friend Rich Meyers might buy it. you don't have anything on them, everyone knows how you stretch the truth. The book I was refering to was Jeff Scott Soto book. Do you remember that one? I was not refering to Journey at all in my last post. LMAO

LOL, firstly, you are not cool, and secondly, I can write a much more readable book than Andrew and I don't care what he says. I love him like a brother but I can write circles around him and he knows it.

I don't know if you're either being contentious in an effort to start a flame war or if you some how are privy to the minds of every musician on the planet, but Vh1's recent special on the 100 Greatest Rock Songs showcased the likes of Sammy Hagar, Sebastian Bach, and others lauding Journey's success. So that line is, quite frankly, bullshit.

No, not starting some war. I deeply respect the classic years. They were great. I am speaking of the now, that's all. As for success, they don't currently enjoy any.

Platinum album, you picky bastard.

And honestly, I've heard that you have some deep issues with Jon and Neal, but that doesn't give you justification for dismissing their talents. Those comments on Vh1 weren't just about Perry or "the classic years." Musicians quite clearly respect Journey's skills for their instruments.
