Sorry to bearer of bad news.

You got nothin' to worry about. Already big news. 30 minutes ago, 10 articles on google news, now over 20.

"How far the mighty have fallen?"

America builds up "heroes" then tears'em down at the slightest imperfection.

Young guy that spent his whole life training for the olympics. If he'd been drinking a beer, no one would care. Most won't care about this but it'll still get blown out.

So the guy smokes pot. What the hell is the big deal? And I don't even smoke!!

The sh*t shouldn't even BE illegal in the first place.

But it is ok to glorify alcohol like we do in this country - THAT'S fine. Backwards-assed, folks.

It can't help but feel this is a big deal for this elite athlete. He will likely lose respect amongst some of his peers and fans as well as possibly lucrative deals and sponsorship. His achievements and history in the pool might also be brought into question, although there is likely nothing to prove or disprove either way.

He should really think himself lucky that this was exposed in the way it was as it might make him think twice before 'upgrading' to other drugs or f@cking up his career altogether by making this a regular habit.

The important thing for him to remember is that despite the pressures and fame at such a young age he is the best in the world and if he wants to stay that way he simply needs to say no.

To be fair though the dude looks like he has been toking since birth!

He'll still lose the money deals.

What do you remember about these guys?

Richard Pryor
John Belushi
Michael Jackson
OJ Simpson

etc, etc

Monday night, Leno, Letterman, Michael Phelps bong jokes cued up.

It may have saved him from moving onto the harder stuff or it can send him spiraling down further. Depends on his reaction. I think there's enough support that he'll end up ok but not where he would've been had this not happened.

What crap "friends" to let pictures like this be taken and then sold for a few measly bucks. I don't cares what he does in private but it sells sleaze mags.

Swimming superstar Michael Phelps has admitted to "regrettable behaviour", after a UK newspaper published a photo of him apparently smoking cannabis.

Mr Phelps, 23, who won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last year, was pictured by the News of the World inhaling from a glass pipe.

The picture was taken in November at a party in the University of South Carolina, the newspaper said.

Mr Phelps apologised to fans and said the incident would not be repeated.

In a statement sent to the Associated Press news agency, the swimmer acknowledged the photo was authentic.

"I engaged in behaviour which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," he said.

"I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me.

"For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."

Michael Phelps broke seven world records in Beijing, eight American records and eight Olympic records to become the most decorated male Olympian of all time with a total of 16 medals, including 14 golds.

In January he was named the United States Olympic Committee's sportsman of the year for 2008.

So what if he was bonged up . Actually I think that should be a new olympic sport. Stoner swimming. It would be a hell of alot more exciting than synchorinised swimming. You could also have stoner curling, stoner skiing, and stoner gymnastics.

NOW ON THE NYT

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/02/sport ... ref=sports

The swimming manufacturer Speedo, which sponsors Phelps and awarded him a $1 million bonus for tying Spitz’s record, dropped Hall after his drug suspension.

Since his record-breaking performance in Beijing, Phelps has added Kellogg’s, Mazda and Subway, among others, to an endorsement portfolio that already included Visa and AT&T. In a “60 Minutes” interview that aired in December, Phelps’s agent, Peter Carlisle, said that Phelps could earn more than $100 million over his lifetime.

“We have been in touch with those sponsors,” the U.S.O.C. spokesman Darryl Seibel said, “and let them know that we’re disappointed and that going forward we expect different and better conduct.”

Now those would be some activities I would love to watch. I'd love to also see shroom ski long jumping, or whatever they call that deal where the fuckers would come barreling down an insane snow ramp and get launched hundreds of feet down range. You know the one that they would always show that guy fucking up big time during the start of Wide World Of Sports. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKEDD1i4oGk

The entertainment wouldn't be long lived though cause pretty much everyone would get fucked up in no time flat.

Here's a cool sport which I'm sure it took a few hits of a pot bong for them to muster up the courage to do:

The could have used it in a commercial though.

Phelps could be on camera, eyes all red and barely open, looks at the camera and says.

"After a few bong hits, I get astonishingly hungry. The first thing I reach for is that beautiful box of Kellogg's Corn Flakes. And I'll eat the whole damn thing, dude."

He's also been banned for three months by his governing body. Banned from what you may ask? Well, I can't remember and I doubt he does either!
