That eye thingy has been touched upon on here (often as some seemingly deviant bodily mechanism) in quite a number of recent threads. I've always thought that most have already noticed that detail since day one, and that it hardly mattered.

He was neither rolling his eyes backwards nor experiencing episodes of nystagmus (involuntary eyeball movement). Rather, those very "effects" were inherent to his visual anatomy...they were normal and not at all uncommon.

Usually, the eye may have either of two different palpebral openings, i.e., two different shapes:

In the almond-shaped eye, the eyelid conceals the sclera (white membrane) around the iris; the eyelid overlaps with the iris.

In the so-called round eye, a ridge of sclera shows between the eyelid and the iridial (iris) border; a white strip "divides" the eyelid and the iris.

He has eyes of the latter type, so when he maneuvers an eyelid in such a way as he did in that Superbowl clip, the iris gets completely covered and only white matter remains exposed, giving the illusion of an eye rolling (conversely, when he retracts an eyelid, the sclera becomes more prominently visible, giving the illusion of an eye popping).

Get used to it dude. Every singer since Perry, and even Perry gets picked to death by Journey fans. It's nothing personal against Arnel, but, as I said, he'll get picked to death for every minor vocal inflection that isn't exactly like Perry, every time he says oooh, and even if he does something a little different with his eyes. But if he does it exactly like Perry, then he's wrong for that too. He's in a no win situation with some people.

The eye thing didn't bug me. I didn't really notice til Deano pointed it out.

I'm more bugged by what I call the "Paris Hilton pout" Perry would make on certain songs. Example in this clip @ 3:30 - 3:32. He's done it on other songs as I've mentioned it before.

It creepy.
