Perry Sang! Perry Sang! ohhh!
slucero's "ps" image is the funniest I've seen in a long time.

In the last year, there must've been 20 or more "Perry announcements" that delivered zilch, nada. Its enough to make someone take a mad splash off a short pier. :)

One thing I'll give Journey is they showed up and played.

On Revelation
On Ellen
On Tour
At the Superbowl

No, actually. There have not. What there have been were 20 or more rumors and idle comments ABOUT Perry by random DJs, magazine writers, friends or acquaintances of Perry and arrogant message board posters who think they know something because they "heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who..." That's it.

I have not seen a single announcement about anything.

Of course these 20 or more "Perry announcements" have delivered zilch, nada because they aren't announcements and there's nothing to announce. Its all TALK that other people are taking to mean something, when in fact that isn't the case. Its got nothing to do with Perry. He hasn't said word one and he hasn't promised anyone a damn thing.

Journey showed up and played, big deal.
They had DEALS to do so and they fulfilled them (barely, in some cases... ).
Perry had no deals with anyone to so much as show up and purchase a frozen yogurt.

No sh*t! Some people get so pissed at Perry for not delivering when the guy hasn't said word one about anything.

Keep in mind, these are also the people who believe every sniff of rumor that comes about and advertise it as truth.
You know what they say, the best part of believe is the lie.

Exactly my point.

Well said.

I'm probably coming off negative here so I must reiterate again... this is not to say that I wouldn't want the guy to do something. But I'm not looking for scraps that aren't there and I'm not so obsessed that I'm clinging to the hope with my life either. I just look at facts and there have been no facts, just a bunch of people yacking about shit they WISH they knew. Its all just drama and I don't do drama.

Perry may have not busted on any deals in the last ten years or so, but before that he surely broke some deals (whether with proper cause or not is debatable).

I'll just leave it at that.

People tend to criticize most vociferously in others what they like least (or are most worried about) in themselves.

~Perry is afraid to go after what he wants so he hides out...
~Perry is a self centered asshole ...
~Perry screws over his friends ...
~Perry just doesn't have it anymore ...

Perry's left the building.

Never to return.

What would you suggest they do instead of forging ahead?

Personally, I suggest they stop trying to forge ahead by way of recreating the past.
Perry has indeed left the building, but they're sure loving pretending he hasn't. :?

Try looking at things this way:

Take me, I've been a national level/collegiate level athlete my whole life. Training, practice, nutrition, and of course, competition, are facts of life for me. They have been since I was 12 years old. It's required dozens of hours per week, lots of energy, and sometimes, it's tough and heartbreaking. But my serious athletic career will be over in a few months and I'll always, always miss it. It's something I'd do for the rest of my life if I could, even if my overall level inevitably declines with age.

Well, I suspect much of the same mentality is there not just for Journey, but for most of our favorite acts. They love something and they want to keep doing it. Stopping isn't an option for them, their heart won't allow them (and for some, their wallets as well). Now, keeping with the athlete metaphor, there are some who injure their knee so badly that they can't even stop out onto the field/court ever again. Then there are some who can't handle the hike down the plateau. After all, there's only one direction you can head when you're at your peak - down. I suspect that's the case with SP. Finally, there's the rare group that are simply content to accomplish what they have and hang 'em up, however premature their exit may seem to others (Barry Sanders anyone?). SP may be in that category as well, who knows.

But for the lion's share of musicians out there, they've been doing this since they could barely see over the counter to buy a pack of new guitar strings at the music store. It's all they know.

Anyway, long story short, telling these guys to stop playing the music they indeed had a huge hand in writing that still brings people to shows, singing along and dancing, just probably doesn't resonate with them any more then it does with the stubborn, aging athlete.

I think it's more a case of they are pretending it doesn't matter that he has left the building. :)

But it's all they know. Neal especially. He's been a Pro since he was fifteen - performing is as much a part of him as breathing, so I don't think he can stop. It's probably the same for the others.

And to do it so poorly. I preferred Arnel's vocals on "Open Arms" to Perry's by far, but it's a shit song regardless of who is singing. The only other decent ones were BGtY (because of Neal's better vocals; Jon's synths sucked), DSB (music only), and "Only the Young" and "Separate Ways" were damn good Arnel vocals and even better musicianship.

That's a lot of songs they failed at. :?

If SP himself were on those re-records and the band performances were stellar, I'd still hate em because the production is so fuckin awful. I could seriously make a better sounding record with a shitty laptop running Pro Tools LE, a MIDI drum sequencer, a free synth emulator, a guitar+bass, and DI box.

The production sucked. That's why Jon needs to stay behind the keyboards. But, seriously, this band has only improved in terms of skill with age.

I differ strongly about your oppinion of Open Arms, but being a woman I am sentamental, and love a good love song. :D Steve's voice to me is better than Arnel's, it is stronger, and he doesn't struggle with the words as Arnel does sometimes.I still like Arnel for different reasons........But I would prefer they don't rehash retreads.

I can understand singing them live, but the old tunes were best the first time.............I heard them play them live in 83' and beleive me,when Perry sang it was magic.......Arnel is good..........but it is not the same at all. Perry's voice moved me like no one else has, it was like the first time I went to a museum and saw my first painting by John Singer Sergent. Nothing has ever captivated me in such a way since.

I respect your views, but I wonder how old you are, and when did you become a fan? Just curious............ :D
