It doesn't often happen, but when I'm really feeling how far away my boy is, especially when he's on manouevres and out of contact for days, these are the three that I tend to play over and over:

Wendy Matthews, 'The Day You Went Away' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zfqusp7s5o0

Robbie Williams, 'Angels' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl4q2WBCywg&feature=related

the third is pure classical - Ralph Vaugh William's 'Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis' (I'm always in tears but totally calm by the end)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y7nJL1hpUU
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

I was thinking of the song "Stay" by Colin James, but I couldn;t find it.

Excellent choice!

Totally agree. LJ comes home on leave in 4 weeks time; I haven't seen him in over a year and its always the hardest when I know I'll see him soon, so those three pieces have been getting a real work out lately. The Fantasia has been part of my life's soundtrack for yearning and hope since LJ first joined the army when we were 19 and I knew I'd never make it as a Forces wife/girlfriend.

This song just came on my new iPod (my first one!) - it's a song that SP had on his playlist a few years back by Eels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcbUJaXDemk (that's a strange camera angle...also the song sounds more melancholy on the studio version).

LOVE that song, but if you want Thin Lizzy and melancholy, can't go past 'Dublin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guYmOVMphqE
