Schon project

Hi all,

I was wondering: Do any of you have any news about Schon and if he has any solo project in the works?

I was listening to I on U recently and realized that was released quite some time ago now! It took me a long time to develop a taste for that disc but now I really like. Anyway, I was thinking about what I might like from Schon, and thought maybe he should do another "Voice" type album, but this time with higher production, and taking some cues from Carlos.

It would be great for Schon to do an album with lots of guest vocalists that are in the vein of what he emulated on voice. So it wouldn't be a rock record, but something that has beautiful, moody songs and talented singers like Aretha, Bocelli, Adams, just artists from all over the musical spectrum whom Schon admires, with great melodies and arrangements and Schon's huge melodic guitar riffs everywhere.

Or another instrumental disc would be great too, maybe revist that Late Nite vibe and go from there!

What do you think?

2 of my favorite CDs are Untold Passion and Here To Stay. For some reason I can listen to these forever.

I'm also a big Late Night fan.

I can't wait to hear something new from Neal.

Me too - I love Beyond the Thunder (my favourite), Late Nite and Voice. I hope he does something more along the lines of Late Nite, because I really like his vocals and another duet with a major female artist could really do wonders for sales and market exposure. I wish they would rerelease the Schon & Hammer disc - someone is trying to sell the S&H Collection on Amazon.ca for $275.97 - too much for me!

They absolutely should re-release the Schon&Hammer CD's. Even if it's No More Lies which is a compilation of the original 2 albums. Beyound the Thunder is another one of my favorites. Great to sit back and just listen.

It's definately time for new music from Neal Schon.

Since Journey had several months off recently, there is a good chance that he was working on something. I hope we hear something soon! Now would be a good time to release it or at least just before Journey starts touring, so they could promote it as they did for S&H. I was just thinking of that Frontiers documentary where Neal gets hit with a beer bottle just before singing 'No More Lies' and Steve Perry is so angry they thought he was going to storm off - Neal goes right into the song with blood running down the side of his face! I wonder if they'll release Frontiers and the ROR documentaries on DVD - preferably with new commentary.

I asked him about it on the tour and he said he had been working a little bit on it, but nothing close to a full album.

That's disappointing, but perhaps he's further along now. With the exception of the Super Bowl, the band has been off for 3.5 months since the tour ended and are only doing a few shows next month. Didn't S&H's 'Untold Passion' take less time than that to put together? Or would they already be writing the next Journey CD?

IonU was a letdown.
Only the tracks where Schon's name is listed first, or by itself, are worth listening to.
Those are reminiscent of Electric World. The others just plod on aimlessly.

I hope if he does another solo album that it's just instrumental. I don't want to see him trying to be either Carlos Santana or Tony Iommi where they bring in a shit load of popular vocalists to sing songs. If he wants to do that either do it with Journey or get another band together.

i'd love to hear another mostly instrumental solo album. i was ok with the amount of vocals on late night. any more than that & it would get in the way of the guitar.

I like that idea too. I was disappointed with 'Pirahna Blues' because it was sung entirely by someone else. Mostly instrumental with a few vocals would be perfect as long as they're Neal's and not someone else's.
