SP's best live performance?

This just might be the greatest live rendition by a rock vocalist ever. The whole band was on fire. Comiskey Park, Chicago, 8/9/79 … Patiently and Opened the Door, back-to-back. Sorry, don’t know how to put the 2 tracks together.

Nice.

I'm going to have to go with these two:

"Still They Ride" - because I think it's a vocal master class

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jubogiBaUhQ

and

IBAWY from the FTLOSM tour - because I think it demonstrated master showmanship (and because it makes me a little tingley)

IBAWY from the FTLOSM tour is without doubt the best vocal i have ever heard.

My favorites, 1,2, and 3 are the 2 sensational live ROR cuts that first surfaced on Time3 (GCHI and IBAWY) and then After The Fall from GH Live.

perry in full command.

Nothing from the Houston show? That's Perry at his absolute best.

Omg. I was JUST coming in here to say that... the Houston tracks on Greastest Hits Live from the 11/5/81 show that wasn't filmed are the best ones. If they had to film just one of those two, it should have been the first show on 11/5, not 11/6. Spin LTS and Escape from GHL for examples.

Great picks! Add that performance mentioned above of my favorite J song Still They Ride......and those would be my picks also. Loved Perry's vocal tone and delivery around that time......was second to none. :)

That's the only record I don't have from the catalog. Read some bad reviews here that it wasn't that good ... + I have SO many concert boots to listen to, anyway. But, now, I've GOT to go find and get that record, lol.

Don't believe it. Anything with Perry before ROR is great. Even the live ROR tracks are good.

Yes, NIG, you are not fond of ROR, the record. Called it Hall&Oakes -like. GH Live compilation came out in 1998, right?

Good memory! I don't know what year it came out. And I don't know why it gets a bad rap. Sounds great to me.

I like the performance of Patiently where he gets all up in the stratosphere at the end. Who knows what show and year that was? Post it if you have it. My apologies if it's in the first post.

EDIT: Yeah, that's the one! A must have for any Perry fan.

Thanks for posting these. I love it when you people do this because I, for one, don't have any bootlegs. This is indeed a treat for me. : :D

Absolutely correct. Every casual fan under the son typically cited "Mother, Father" from Houston. But that didn't really kick a lot of ass, imho, but I'm not a fan of his Escape-era tone.

He demonstrates impressive vibrato, emotion, control, and showmanship on IBAWY. There are only two things that could have made that performance better: the "oooh" mini-chorus seen on the studio version and Neal Schon.

Mmmm...GOOD but a few too many frilly vocal gymnastics/histrionics.

The ones I mentioned are conventional, orthodox, and fantastic vocally.

I don't know how people can go on and on citing the FTLOSM tour as proof that Perry can't sing anymore. He absolutely nailed it on that tour from what I've heard.

I went to see him on this tour he sang for over 2 hour straight with no break and it was fantastic!!

Those are two of my most favorite performances! And, the "Patiently" one is divine. IBAWY sounds so smooth, bell-like tone - it's just perfect. Gawd, can you imagine if it had been recorded for us rather than by the bootlegger?!

You are officially the most pompous fuck on this board, and that's saying A LOT! Nothing you ever express is an opinion, but rather a fact in your own mind. I'll start listening to your opinions when you finally reach puberty. Drew...can't we at least require members here to be 18? Fuck...I have socks older than this dope

I noticed the "casual fan" reference, but I was equally amused by "the son"......of God, Giddy?!?!? :?

Houston 1980. The whole show is a masterpiece.
