Although it's a given that AATY is Arnel's finest work from a power ballad standpoint to date, it
would be very interesting to hear what a Perry spin on that song would sound like.
Picture in your mind a Perry fronted Journey belting out how "After all these years, you stood by me
the days and nights that I was gone...etc. etc"

Not that this will happen of course... But just something to ponder.

Back in the 80's, that song was pretty damned good, especially live with Espee on mic. We just are all tired of it. It's better than AATY. AATY has the cheesiest Friga-Cain lyrics ever.

The power behind the song just kind of resembles that of "When You Love a Woman."
Caught some youtubes of Arnel on WYLAW. Did it justice. His versatility is quite amazing.
Looking forward to see what Journey has up its sleeve for the next release.

The two Gens tracks that were re-done could afford to be since Gens had sub-par production.
I doubt Shirley will go along with producing Arrival songs he already produced before.

I think there's a stronger chance of more unused Arrival demos making their way onto an album.

"The Place in Your Heart" has a nice hook to it.
Or there is always "Every Generation." Could get a Perry/Rolie thing going with that one eh??

OA may be soooo played out and cheesy to a lot of people here but let me tell you -when I first heard this song while watching "The Last American Virgin" over fuckin' 25 years ago, it gave me the chills. This song introduced me to SMFP and Journey. I said to myself "Now this is what you call a power ballad!". The piano intro, the vocals, Neal's guitar and overall arrangement of this song is indescribable.

Check out @ 4:15 on this clip. You could not ask for a better song in this scene.

I've loathed the song since the second time I've heard it. There's no "power" to that ballad at all. I much prefer Arnel's more masculine interpretation of the song, but it still sucks.

To date??? You realize this guy has recorded only one CD, right? As far as "Perry's spin" on it....it really depends on when you're referring to. If you're talking Perry in his prime, there wouldn't be much of a contest. While I like Arnel, Perry could sing circles around the guy.

Pineda's masculine interpretation? He is hardly a ballsy singer. I can't see him singing with an edge on a cutting song like EOTB or Chain Reaction. Call Perry whatever you like, Pineda is a softy compared to him.

Can't imagine SP would want to sing this song, with those kinds of lyrics. Jon needs a co-writer to feed off. WYLAW was excellent. Say what you will about the cheesiness of OA ... it fit in with the early '80s (as PowerChord said). I still love hearing the original version come over the radio.

John, I have got that Arnel has only recorded one cd. Just thought it would be interesting to hear a Perry lead vocal on AATY. Wasnt implying that Arnel is a better singer...just that it would be cool to hear how Perry would have made it his own.

Although worlds apart as vocalists, Pineda's live version is superior to Perry's live version. Fact is Perry for whatever reason changed it up live and as a result it didn't soar as it did on record. I harshly said before that he ducked notes on this song live but have since realised that Perry often reinterpreted material in a concert setting and mostly for the better.

That said I hate Open Arms. It's quite the piece of sh!t.
