OT: Poison-Def Lep-Cheap Trick

Postby DrFU » Sun Feb 15, 2009 12:23 am

Sis went to see Bret Michaels last night in Oklahoma & he told the crowd these bands would be touring together this summer.

Drew had already told us about the first two, but seems like CT is new.

This ought to be an interesting mix of fans ... :D

Cool! I've yet to make it to a Poison show, but I've been wanting to... seen Lep... would see again... missed CT's set at the Journey show, so might be nice to catch it... lol! This is good news. :D Thank you, Fu-berry!

with all due respect poison works a crowd a lot better than def leppard.i like both bands but poison is better live than leppard.the leppard boys might have a deeper catalog but poison are better in a live setting.

...and as a live (and recording) act CHEAP TRICK blows the shit out of both of em.
If this were a fair and just world, Trick would be headlining over these girls!

I thought Cheap Trick were great, especially at interacting with the crowd. My husband actually preferred them over Journey, they're more his style of music.

Cheap trick did a great job last summer. They were fun to watch and very nice people to boot.

Doesn't this seem like an odd pairing to anyone else?

I'm sold on DL and CT, but I need assurance that Poison does not perform "Unskinny Bop" at their shows.

They have to play "Unskinny Bop". They don't have that much music to perform. Saw them last summer and it would have been a good show if Brett Michaels hadn't spent so much time talking about his "Rock of Love".

If this show comes to town, I'll probably see it. :D

Thanks for the heads-up! I was wondering who that mysterious third band would be.

Poison would be okay live if any of those guys were even remotely competent at their instruments. You don't have to be Jimi Hendrix to play "Nothin' But A Good Time," but man, Rikki might be the worst drummer I've ever seen in an arena and CC is just distractingly sloppy, even when he's not drunk.

And although Cheap Trick is a fun live band, 90% of the crowd will only know 3-4 songs out of their 10-12 song set... IF THAT.

When they opened for Journey last summer, everyone was sitting through their set until I Want You To Want Me was played, and then they sat back down for the last 5 tunes.

The only songs I recognized were:

I Want You To Want Me
The Flame
Surrender
Dream Police
Magical Mystery Tour

The 5-6 other tunes they played left me unimpressed and stumped

Well, I never intended to see Poison, ever, but since I see DL everytime they tour, I guess I get to see them for the first time   Cheap trick is still pretty good, from what I saw of them last year, but the only song I really care about is The Flame, so I hope they are still performing that this year.

Didn't Joe Elliott kind of get in a little tiff with Brett last year at a festival? I thought Joe kind of belittled Poison's music?

I wonder who will be playing the Keys for Cheap Trick on The Flame. Last summer, Friga came out and played Keys on 2-3 tunes for Cheap Trick

Here's what I was remembering. This has Joe's comments and then after Bret's comments back. Brett talks about DL and their lip syncing  :

Every one is gearing up for the road except Journey. They weren't kidding when they said they were going to cut back the touring. AP doesn't have to worry about being replaced. It's pretty obvious these guys are starting to wind down finally after 35 years.
Maybe they'll do the openig act by commitee, having different bands playing through out the tour.

It's the middle of February. Maybe the tour won't start until the middle of July like last year. I'm pretty sure we didn't know their touring plans at this point last year, and the Revelation Tour was still a pretty big tour. I remember Ross Valory being the one to tell us that they were going to tour with Cheap Trick and Heart well before the official release came out. Since Journey camp is the slowest organization machine known to man, news of an upcoming tour is going to have to slip out from someone in the band or something.

These two bands talking about each other not being good is akin to Mike Tyson lecturing OJ on good public behaviour. They both are horrible. No offense Lynn. I hope you stick around, I am doing something for you and Melissa right now..this very minute.

It doesn't offend me when someone else doesn't like music I enjoy :P  What you said was funny. I've never been a huge Poison or Bret Michaels fan, so I can agree with you on that one actually. The music is listenable to me, but not something I would listen to regularly like DL. Poison would be more for Nostalgia and high school/college memories I guess.

So what did you do? Does it involve singing music from another band you hate????

July is going to be a wicked-ass month. Pre-emptive woo... :D

One thing though... Tinley? I'd almost be arsed to trek to Milwaukee instead.

I'd be arsed to agree with that. F Tinley. But if the WI show ends up at Alpine Valley, that's just as bad. What other outdoor venues are up in WI? Anyone know? I doubt in the middle of July they'd be at the Bradley Center (or the Sharpie Stadium, or Tropicana Juice Dome or whatever it might be called by now...).

I saw the Rolling Stones at Alpine Valley years ago, after that concert I vowed I'd never see a concert there again!! It took HOURS to get out of that crazy parking lot!!

Don't have to worry about this concert performing there, they'll be down by the lakefront at the Marcus Amphitheater. I do like this venue a lot!!

I'm hoping to be there on July 18th

Cool! I see that July 18th is a Saturday, also. This pleases me. :D

Not only F Tinley, but double F Tinley on a Friday night. No way.

Well I guess it's either this tour or the 38 Special/REO/STYX tour to go and see.

Questions now:

Will Def Leppard be playing last?

Will they play more then 80 minutes?

Will Poison play more then 80 minutes (last time I saw them they played 75 minutes.. WTF is up with that?)

Will Cheap Trick blow both bands out of the water?? lol
