At some point in the next few days he wanted to discuss the terms some more but Journey corp. didn't and the offer went away.
He had a blog up which outlined how it went down but its been so long, I don't know the link or if its even active anymore.
Someone will be along with more specifics.

That's the same thing I seem to remember. Nonetheless I'm glad that things worked out for Jeremey to continue to be out on the road. Anyone with a voice like THAT really must tour! I'm simply blown away whenever I listen to a Frontiers performance.

I'm not saying Neal's incapable of offending Jeremey, deliberately or indeliberately...
After all, Jon made Neal's own candidate (Arnel) feel pretty fucking unwelcome.

He was very good natured in retelling his audition experience, and wouldn't have
brought up Jon's dissatisfaction, but the interviewer kept digging until he coughed it up,
and this interview (mostly in Tagalog) was televised here sometime before Christmas '07, IIRC.
Anyways:
After a second round of singing, during Arnel's audition at the warehouse,
Jon kept saying he wasn't satisfied with "this guy"... in Arnel's presence.
I mean, Arnel could retell it, right?
I get the impression Jon didn't think (or care) that Arnel could understand.
Neal got fed up and said aloud that if they weren't getting Arnel,
he'd rather just start a different, new band instead.
Anyway, IIRC Arnel then sang some of the dirty dozen for Jon,
(prior to that, they'd had him sing a lot of non-Journey material)...
and after that, Jonathan gave in.
Again, Arnel had to be harrassed into coughing up this story.
He sort of "went pale" right after he did, his smile fading fast,
but the interview mercifully changed tack. Bert de Leon later
told the same story, IIRC, but I dunno if he was an actual witness,
or if he just heard it from Arnel privately.
However, please keep in mind: that was then.
Arnel's been pretty straight up about how Jon's been VERY good to him,
how the whole band's been very good to him, helping him adjust, and learn,
and protect his voice.
Just me, but...
The way and order in which Arnel's mentioned his bandmates in interviews
can suggest he's comfortable with Deen, and still hasn't totally graduated
from awestruck fan-mode with regard to Neal, Ross and Jon.
Don't laugh, but some of his relatives/buddies were hoping to parlay Arnel's gig
into autographs from Steve Perry. I'd suspect Arnel would want one for himself, first.
Cheers.

Actually, Wech, Arnel has said he's closest to Neal and not as close to the others because he traveled in the bus during the tour with Neal and so they had a lot of time to talk. I guess I always assumed he was in a bus with Deen. And he said he and Neal have kept in touch via text messaging during the break, whereas, he hasn't kept in touch with the others while on break. But, yes, you're so right, I believe he will always be awestruck by Neal and Jon especially. He really looks up to Neal and is so thankful for all he did for him.

Jana,
Note when I posted what you are reacting to, and consider when the 2008 tour began/finished
All I'm saying is that, at the time, he seemed least intimidated by Deen.

If you look at the tour/show dates for Frontiers you will see they are mostly on Friday and Saturday nights....AND most of them are within a reasonable distance to return to his home and family for at least 3/4 days out of most weeks. There are a few dates that might make returning home not on the list for that week...but for the most part Frontiers schedule is a pretty good one for making it home for a few days a week. So I don't see the confusion on that item.....touring with Journey would require MONTHS on the road - non-stop. Choosing what he has going for him now touring with Frontiers is like apples and oranges - they just aren't the same.

Neal's: Jeremey's very good but he thinks Jeremey sounds too much like Perry and felt a bit weird that they seem to have a physical resemblance as well.
I think I believe Neal's version that he doesn't want Journey to be looked at as a tribute band by hiring a Perry sound-alike and look-alike.

Well that was the story about Hugo. But it's funny that people really did think Perry had a perm at Augeri-era shows. I heard for myself many people thinking they were watching Perry. And Arnel has a 'similar' look because of his hair. Add that to the voice and you still get people thinking about Perry. And even though "we" fans hear the difference, it is amazing how many casual fans think Augeri and Arnel sound exactly like Perry...

So they hire a Perry sound-alike in Pineda? LOL....
That's not quite it, methinks.
Jeremy and Arnel can both sound very much like SteveP... but:
the difference is that Jeremey seemed to have more vocal control --more nuance-- which Jon Cain wanted for his weepy-ass ballads
(and maybe that latter part is why Neal didn't woo Jeremey as diligently as he could have).
Arnel seemed to have the edge in power --which Neal thought would lend more to his rockers.
If we reduce t to a contest-by-proxy between Neal and Jon, then Neal won, period.
