Back when Steve A. joined the band, a local radio station played Separate Ways with S.A. on lead vocals one day while I was at work. They were coming to town and promoting the upcoming concert. The DJ said here is Journey with their new singer and that was the first time I had heard him. Has anyone else heard this and better yet does anyone have a clip of this?

What year was this, 98?
I am completely unaware that he re recorded 'Separate Ways', or any earlier stuff in the studio, apart from a couple of live sessions in studio's back in 2001 ish.

if it was 2001 i think some radio stations played clips from the dvd.

I wouldn't mind hearing a clip too.

In an old Jonathan Cain interview, which I can no longer locate, he mentioned they recorded several old Journey songs and gave them to radio stations.
Cain's challenge to the DJs went something to the effect of, 'try and tell me that does not sound like Journey.'

I didn't know they did any studio versions of the classics back then. I'm sure somebody on this board has them.

Never heard of any re recordings with Augeri at the helm. Never seen them on any trade lists. Live in the studio yeah, but not re records.

I saw them in 2001 on the Arrival tour. That was such a great show.

That was probably a radio promo disc with two live recordings on it. They were both supposedly recorded in Louisville, Kentucky on 8/20 98 at Freedom Hall. They actually sound great.

Thanks Steve. OK, now that we know they did play this as a radio promo, who has a copy?

The first couple of lines remind me Journey....and he 'did' sound like SP on the beginning of that song....and I guess that was what Frig and Fro were betting on.....oh well, too bad.

I remember a quote, and it was probably from either BTM, or the Director's Cut.....someone said something about people's jaws dropping when they would hear SA sing the first few lines of SW....

Yeah I had that song, in fact, I also had a demo radio version tape of SA singing all the classics and thee band sent them to radio to "convince" them they were good enough to be played. The verdict came in and "no" was the collective answer. The Perry cuts will always be supreme, no matter how much the two dipshits don't want them to be.

Fuck, I had golden stuff, back when I was a pretty good fan, and really cared about them and actually dug for shit...Then my sterling 195 dollar computer decided to take a huge dump and I lost everything. I still have the discs, and could reburn them onto my computer, but nowadays, the fire is not there..in fact it ain't even lit.

He (SA), was solid the first three years, but he was hardly "jaw dropping." I am not about to get into a pissing match, but you ever see Steve Perry live Linda? He was jaw dropping every night. Not here and there, but every single song and night. Hall of Fame every night. I actually once caught SP in a lyrical screw up on Ask the Lonely at the Cow Palace, and was talking to myself, "how is he going to get out of this(he sang the second verse first, and simply sang it again in the proper sequence)...and I doubt any of the other 17,000 plus even caught it. He was special. He never took nights off, and when he was tired and a little raspy, it still sounded amazing.

Yes, I did see Perry, several times. Or rather, I heard him; in those days the pot smoke haze was so heavy in places like Memorial Auditorium in Dallas and the Summit in Houston that you really couldn't see the band from the cheap seats. As I recall, he didn't get the respect he deserved from critics or fans either one in those days; average fans didn't even know his name; he was just that girly guy who sang for Journey.
