So, I was watching I'll Be Alright Without You from the 94-95 tour today and finally decided to find out who SP's incredibly good lead guitarist was on that tour. Stumbled on his site and saw he's got a solo catalogue of his own - downloaded one song right now, "Everlasting God," pretty catchy guitar playing. Anybody listen to this guy? What should I get?

Edit: It's cheesy Christian music I guess, but this guy can PLAY. Wow.

Finally catching up to speed today, are ya?! j/k Yes, I've heard him. I couldn't find it on youtube to post but I have a track of him playing Amazing Grace without vocals that is fantastic.

He's a hell of a player. When I made that post, I hadn't even gotten all the way through the song... I was at the great guitar solo. Then the song I d/l'd has some corny ass little kid coming in and talking about God, like a 6 year old, at the end. So cheesy and distracting. It's cool he wants to make some religious music, but damn, this guy should be writing other stuff too... everything I can find on iTunes appears to be religious.

He could have went the way of the rock star and from what I've read he did have offers and consider it but his girlfriend was a Christian and he started going to church with her and decided to devote his music solely to serving God instead. He seems to be content and found what he was looking for with God rather then fame and fortune.

All he does now is Christian music. There is a video of him playing Lights at one of his concerts.

Oh well, I'll check out some of his stuff anyway. It's just distracting for me to listen to songs that make me feel like I'm in some non-denominational, borderline cult church mass.

Regardless if you agree with his religious philosophy or not..you are right on to recognize how talented a musician he is.

Yes he is strictly a Christian artist now, leading praise and worship as a staff member at his church in California .

I am told that JSS was at that NAMM performance, standing in the back of the room. I was in the front row as you can see from my video so I didn't actually see JSS.

He has released 5 albums to date. The lyrical content of the music does not in any way diminish his amazing talent.

It doesn't diminish his talent and what I've gotten so far is very catchy and well-written. But I can really only stand to hear about 4 "rock" songs with church hymn lyrics in a row before it just starts really distracting me from the music. I've got no problem with his being religious per se. But, I'm a product of Catholic schools and I've been forced to listen to enough preaching to last me a lifetime! Anyway, lyrics in general don't make or break a song for me anyway. But, Christian rock like this still kinda creeps me out in a cultish, non-denominational Christian church (no offense to anyone who may be members of such a church around here... there are some bad ones out in Cleveland, complete scams) kinda way. My crazy uncle joined one of those after he moved out to Montana and he's gone batshit in the last 3 or 4 years.

No sir, but I LOVE guitar playing. I used to have a room mate years ago that was a phenomenal guitar player, and he would play daily and I'd just sit there, like this Have loved guitar playing ever since.

My favorite guitar is the Fender Stratocaster run through a Marshall amp. Then the Les Paul. I also love the Mesa Boogie amp. That's a monster.

I have a guitar in the closet, which is where it's best left untouched, because I completely suck at playing.

Dude, as I'm sure you know, they've got some amazing small practice amps that have incredible sound, now days.

Never stop playing if you have the aptitude.

Will still suck to have to get rid of the Mesa though.

Just got a Digitech RP500 modeler, have this great sounding keyboard amp that has a completely flat response and lets me use all the models/effects on the unit without additional coloration. I gotta admit, I've been a tube snob since I saved up the money to buy my Mesa 7 years ago, but these modeling units have come a LONG way. Hell, Brewster himself is using the Line6 POD straight into the PA for gigs! Pretty sure the Frontiers guy was using the Boss GT-8 or 10, he's got some very good tones. Steve Howe and Todd Rundgren both use 'em too. There's still a bit that's missing from the "feel," but I'm pretty happy so far. And I haven't even really created the sounds I want to stick with.

I think I might keep the Mesa in storage for a while. It's a discontinued amp and I'd have a bitch of a time finding another one down the line. I'd fetch $700 for it at MOST and there's no way I'm gonna ship the thing anywhere, so I'd have to do a local Craigslist listing or something.
