In a recent interview for Mix Magazine in January 2009, session drummer Russ Miller told the mag he was recording for Steve Perry.

Russ - "I've done [the movies] Chicken Little, Resident Evil Apocalypse, Silent Hill and Lakeview Terrace, where I'm doing all of the drums and percussion here. Right now I'm working on Steve Perry's album. It's not even a question anymore; everybody comes here. I'll go out on the road and come back, and there will be sessions waiting to happen, and I try to turn them around in a timely manner."

Oh, this most certainly was discussed around here. Wasn't this statement rather quickly and unceramoniously retracted/modified shortly after it appeared? It didn't take long for the poo to hit the fan...

Peshaw, S78. Were it not for dried up old rehashed "Perry's recording something" rumors, we'd have no fun at all.

P.S. I understand congratulations are in order. I wish you the best

Yeah, Perry is a strange dude. Just the Perry part of this story disappeared.

Dan Wilson blogged about all the people he worked with last year and he mentioned that he worked on songs with Perry. Then like 10 days later just Perry disappeared from that list.

I don't get it. I understand being a private person, but this business requires publicity to sell your work and all of this is good publicity. Why would he be writing if he doesn't want people to know. A true enigma.

If he decides not to publish the work, there won't be a big letdown.

Either that or this guy is a shrewder businessman than even already given credit for. Years in the making, that album finally comes out in like 2015 and we all go out and pick it up like suckers

If he plays this long enough, he'll even start getting some mainstream press rumblings ala Chinese Democracy. If he builds a hype machine like that, this thing will fuckin sell.

But, I'm willing to bet nothing ever comes out

Half his fanbase will be dead by 2015.

There won't be any new ones to make up for them

Journey cashing in on their name much smarter than putting out "Perry Sang" rumors.

I heard he has spent the last 3 years writing and recording a new answering machine message but that it is just too painful so he takes breaks and gets others to come in and help. I would love to hear it !
