OT: Jacko Rumored to Announce Concert Tour

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Michael Jackson may soon return to the stage, at least for a "special announcement."

Pop star Michael Jackson has been the subject of recent rumors about his health, and about a comeback.

The pop star has scheduled a news conference Thursday at London's O2 arena, the same venue where Prince sold out 21 nights in 2006, according to London's Outside Organisation.

Although the short statement announcing Jackson's news conference did not reveal any details, Britain's Sky News reported Wednesday that the 50-year-old King of Pop has agreed to a series of summer concerts at the O2.

Rumors have circulated for years about a possible Jackson concert comeback, just as speculation has abounded about his physical and financial health.

Jackson's reclusive lifestyle -- and a photo last year of him being pushed in a wheelchair -- created a fertile ground for health rumors.

When a London tabloid reported in in December that Jackson was battling a potentially fatal disease that required a life-saving lung transplant, his publicist responded that he was "in fine health" and that the story was "a total fabrication."

Jackson's recent financial troubles in the past year have included the near-foreclosure of his Neverland Ranch in California, which he later sold.

Jackson has not lived at Neverland since June 2005, after a Santa Barbara County jury found him not guilty of child molestation charges.

Maybe Journey can open up a few shows for him? I'm sure Neal could pull off the lead solo to "Beat It" for him.

Really sad to be honest. I remember when I was like 6 there was that big Michael Jackson HBO special. 92 or so? I dunno exactly. But it was awesome. I'd love to see him in his prime. About as fucked up as they come, but the man had big time talent!

Yeah, my mother watched that special and was talking about it for a week after. I stayed away from my parent's home until she got all that out of her system. As for the big time talent.....not anymore. Yet I will retract that opinion if he proves otherwise, lip synching won't count.

I think the news conference will be about how he's dying or something and will miss us all when he's gone. Or he may announce that he will pay 1 million dollars for someone to donate a body part or something to him so he can become healthy again. May also have to do with freezing him for when doctors will be able to thaw a person out and bring them back to life. Never know, we will just have to wait and see what happens. Regardless.....you can expect just about anything if it's coming from Jacko during a news conference.

I don't laugh at that. I think most people laugh at the freak nature he has taken on. I'll bet he's tormented and he can't enjoy his wealth and fame. Pretty sad, and definitely freaky.

Freak shows sell. Look at Marilyn Manson and PeeWee Herman. If Jacko can't sing good anymore, they could always put him in a germ-free trailer with windows and take him to carnivals for people to gawk at. I'd pay $2 to see his freaky ass. They could even get more if they put him in a dunk tank.

Not so fast. As with everything, it all depends on the marketing. I'm ever the optimist, and I don't believe there is any career that cannot be salvaged with the right packaging.

He needs money and he's still breathing so, why not. It's not as if he has to actually sing or, really dance for that matter. They can put 30 or 40 people on stage with him to do the dancing and he can just strut around lipsynching with his hand over his mouth. That's how he performed at his 40th birthday special. It is interesting though that about once a year we hear all of the "Jako is on his death bed" talk. We see him being pushed around in a wheel chair with his face and hands completely covered. Every once in a while we see a grotesque picture of him without cover and hear how sick he is. His brothers and sisters asked him to be part of the reunion tour but, he hasn't spoken to them in many years. Now, he's planning a tour of his own. Odd.

No doubt he's in need of cash, and likely has health issues. There's absolutely no telling how much of a voice he has left, but, still...

I don't see the need for any kind of elaborate and over-the-top stage productions, heck the man is what, 50 now? How about if he just sings those songs from back in the day (if he has any voice left), bust a move here and there (if he's able), and chat up the crowd. For whatever reason, and through all the trials and tribulation, people like Michael Jackson. I think his career can be salvaged if he's ready to grow up -- and act human, or at least like something that breaths air and drinks water, like the rest of us...

Yeah, he needs dough now like nobody's business. But he's a solo act and this puts him in a situation with limited options. Not like a band getting a fresh start with a new singer or anything. So I'm starting to bet that Jackson's next concert will be more like a night out at the opera, where there are lots of people in costumes and makeup dancing around with him on stage while he's singing mostly in falsetto. It will probably be reminiscent of the production Cats. Lets just wait and see, who knows, maybe he'll do good, or maybe not.....

I hear that Eddie Van Halen is looking for a new singer. They already have a hit collaboration with "Beat It" so I think it's a no-brainer. Watch for a new Van-Jacko album in the fall.

Agreed.. I would've loved to have seen him in the early 80s.

There are more rumors around Michael Jackson than just about any celebrity. This "sources says he's in talks to perform at O2/Vegas" rumour shows up every three months or so and has yet to amount to anything.

One has to wonder what he'd be doing right now had he invested some of his money in a good psychologist around the time of Thriller and worked through some of his issues?

Long after he's gone, this is what people will remember of him instead of the rather spectacular feat of having three studio albums sell more than 30 million copies each.

Hey, ease up on PeeWee! Not like HE molested anybody other than himself.
Jackson might've been 'great' in the 80s, but it's obvious the guy's got severe mental and health issues. There was some concert on a few years back where people came on and sang his songs and he "sang" some songs while dancing. He totally lip synched the songs and not very well either. I simply cannot believe that he can perform a concert in his present state. The guy is also hurting for money in a big way. Apparently he worked with some guy that he borrowed a ton of money from and then stiffed him. The guy is/was(?) suing him for so many millions of dollars. I can't believe Jackson will perform again. The fact that he basically ripped off McCartney should be enough cause for England to shun him like the plague. Jerk. Also, with the whole 'child molester' thing... why would anyone want to see this scumbag? Maybe he and Gary Glitter can tour.
