Funny thing. A high school reunion is one of those things that you naturally don't want to attend. And it's not the status thing or people you dislike. For me, it was that I just value my privacy and I'm kinda set in my ways, so it just seemed awkward. But keep in mind, that in my relatively small class of 128, we all were friends on some level. Of course, there were circles, but no real cliques. Whether you were a jock or musician, Beta Club or barely squeaked-by, we all knew each other as a big family.
Anyha, I talked myself into going to my 25th...dreading it all the way there.
But within 5 mins I was comfortable and in a constant grin from seeing old faces, shaking hands & getting hugs. It was wonderful. We had a Friday night mixer with a stereo playing all our old tunes and slide show of all the old pics. Saturday was a picnic and nice dinner/dance that night. Of course, somewhere in there, we toured the old & new high schools, took more pics, saw old teachers, and re-signed yearbooks.
So, while I initially didn't want to go, I left feeling soooo glad I went.
And btw, in the invite letter that went out, it was stated something like, "This is not a career contest or seeing who's fat or bald. Leave that crap at the door." But ya know, that wasn't really necessary because when I looked at everyone, I saw them as I remembered them. In fact, we stayed so busy reminiscing & remembering details that it was as if we were still there in school.
