Haunted places where you live/ share stories

Postby artist4perry » Thu Mar 05, 2009 8:31 am

I found this whole list of haunted places in Arkansas. Some I must admit I never knew of.........Share your favorite local "haunted story".

http://theshadowlands.net/places/arkansas.htm

The one of "Gertie" at Harding university I heard when Dan and I attended there long ago. Our dorm was haunted supposedly by the apparition. One girl in my dorm screamed one night, she wanted me to stay with her. Apparently her doorknob was turning, she opened it immediately only to see no one in the halls. You can see easily up and down the halls there. They say the old dorm was once on that spot...............

I have several personal experiences.

1) Day my dad died. I was working a cruise ship, and got the call from my brother that our dad had passed. I went into the middle of the ship where there was a bar. It was mid-day, the place was empty, so I could have a beer and cry. I was with my (then) husband, bawling my eyes out... and my beer can did a 360. Not a big circle, but a tight in the spot 360. I said "Hi daddy... ", and it stopped.

2) More recently. I was up in Seattle visiting my son. He does theatrical production, and was working as the stage manager for a show that was to be produced. We were at the rehearsal hall, and upon entering, Brian mentioned to me that the place was haunted. I said I knew... I could feel it, upstairs. Nothing much else happened, until I left to use the ladies room. The ladies room had motion detection lights, so if you entered the lights went on, which they did. (meaning, the lights were off previously... hence... no one should have been in there). Straight ahead of me was the handicapped stall, which I immediately took as being used (but with no lights?), so I went down a few to the left. While I was... busy... I heard a big "SIGH", and some movement. I immediately connected that to the occupant of the handicapped stall.

Except, no one was in the handicapped stall. I was solo. I found out after that the entity hangs around in there.

3) Downstairs in the basement of the building where my last job was at, I was mid discussion with one of owners. I glanced down for a millisecond and I heard a SLAP, right between Terryl and myself. I snapped my head back to Terryl, whose eyes were as big as mine. She heard it as well. No one else around. The building has a ghost, but reportedly only upstairs on the 3rd floor. Looks like there might be another.

4) About 4 months ago, my roommate (a vivacious Romanian some of you know and love) were talking in our kitchen. To my left, her right, was the window over the sink. We both saw, at the same time, a white fog-like man-sized shape walk past the window. I said... "I think I just saw a ghost!". Laura said "Oh thank God, I saw it too!". During the same time period, there was a lot of noise going on around 2:30 in the morning, as if someone was opening all the drawers and slamming them shut. I thought it had been a noisy neighbor, or my crazy Euro roomie redecorating at 2:30 AM. Nope. Laura was a bit spooked, so I said, "You aren't allowed in here anymore". No more problems.

5) Lastly, not so much ghostie, but empath stuff. I was visiting a friend of mine out in Calabasas. Upon walking up to her house, I got the most horrid sensation of danger and urged her to hurry up and get us inside. I said there's something wrong upstairs.

She said that just last week, the drug dealers that had lived there had moved out (or arrested she wasn't sure which). I had zero knowledge of these guys at all. Trust your gut.

Don't adjust your computer screen....this is my Grandmother, circa 1945....on a local Beach in CT....her hair is all windblown  :

We were "mirror images" to each other...I lost her 23 years ago....I miss her so much...

Oh, I've had encounters with her....in the late 90s, she wrote the word "ALWAYS" on my closet door, in the middle of the night...turned the lights on, by the way, so I could see it....it was July 7th....what would've been her birthday....

Another example.....I was visiting the grave of my Husband's Mother...all of a sudden, I smelled a very strong perfume...one that I KNEW was hers....It went across my nose....as the wind was coming up from behind me....no one else could smell it.

I live in an old house (over 100 years old) and the internal doors tend to open by themselves a lot. Not too weird; old latches that don't always catch properly, air currents push them open, something like, something explainable. Except that when one of the doors opens by itself, if you ask politely "please shut the door" they always do.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Ariandu- In my case the house was built in 1908 by my grandfather. It went through several families and my husbands grandmother bought it. We bought it from her and moved into it in 1969. The LR fireplace had a metal front with a design. We also put a heavy brass screen in front with a metal drawstring curtain. The metal piece was in, the metal drape was drawn and while I was feeding a bottle to my daughter the bottom right side started moving. I said O K you stay in here, I'm going to the kitchen! It never happened again. In the hallway to the basement, when Bob would walk buy the doorknob would rattle as if someone was trying to come up from the basement. He would open the door and NOTHING was there. Finally ,the bedrooms were all on the 2nd floor. We would hear footsteps coming down the 3rd floor stairs. It was like bump, bump, bump, bump. We did not react to it . Everything quieted down . So ,I think entities try to get your attention and test you. I am glad they liked my rock music. We moved in 1987 and I went back just to ask the new owner if anything went on and she said no.
