Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let those that may be interested know that I just posted a brand new song on myspace. It's just a rough vocal take from Alex, and I've got to send him a list of corrections on some words here and there. The eq is a little off, so don't have it too loud during the chorus! We haven't added guitars or backing vocals yet, but I like people to be able to hear the process of the songs as they evolve.

I hope you like it, and we'll be working on it more over the next few days. I'll keep you posted!

The song is called "Sooner Or Later".

Hey Jim.....Just finished listening to most of your tracks....Good stuff, man!

'Losing You' reminds my(muscially) of 'Cold as Ice'....well, the beginning 'riff'.

At times your voice, and I'm assuming it is your voice, has a kinda of Gramm quality to it.....And on 'It's All Over Now' the voice has a Savatage sound to it at times......cool!

A very theatrical voice.....

Thanks man,

I'm glad you like some of my songs! It isn't me on lead vocals, it's Alex Mark Scott. He's a singer from Italy that I've been working with for about a year and a half now. I think he's got an amazing voice! We work together on the songs to help him work out his accent issues. Some words he's not sure how to pronounce, so (just like the version I posted) I have to send him a list of words to correct with the proper pronunciation. Alex is one of the coolest and funniest guys I've ever got to know, and it's a blast to work with him. He's very humble, and never takes criticism to heart. We get on Skype and chat over streaming video several times a week. His wife is very cool too. We bounce ideas off of each other all the time to get these songs in the shape that you hear.

He just sent me this song this morning, and I've been waiting on it for a while because he's been so busy. I decided to post his first take just to give everyone an idea of the song. I also like people to hear the steps we go through to get the songs right. It'll be more refined and will have guitars on it the next time you hear it. I've gotta work on some backing vocal tracks for it also, so it still needs a LOT of work. I'll keep you all posted on the progress.

Thanks for checking it out, and I hope we can add some more stuff soon...I have a lot of ideas brewing (and some are more uptempo songs!).

Thanks! And thank you to Carla and GinandTonic too. I really appreciate it. We still have a lot to do to it, and hopefully it won't take too long. For fans of Foreigner...I've really been in a Foreigner mindset with some of my newer songs. I have a couple that I'm working on that I think are sounding pretty cool! I'm just working on lyrics, and sequencing now. I may be able to share those in a couple of weeks. Alex is freaking out over them, and has been on me to send them. I have to torture him every once in a while, because when I send him too much at one time, he'll get sidetracked and won't send me the earlier songs! I have to ration his songs.   We joke about it all the time. He cracks me up constantly! Hopefully some of you will get to meet him one of these days.

When we first talked about these songs and the project, I was contemplating the idea of trying to make them more current and radio friendly. I made up my mind though, that I'm not trying to get radio hits out of my songs (well, these songs anyway!). I just want to write some cool 80's sounding songs that I'm proud of, and Alex has the same mindset.

I'm glad that I've recieved the responses that I have with these songs on myspace, and it really amazes me that that many people listen to and like the songs! I get some great messages on there all the time, and it makes me feel that I made the right decision with the sound. I don't care if I only sell 100 copies of this album, as long as I'm happy with it.

Thanks so much for the support that you have all shown me in here, and maybe we'll be able to put on a full blown show for you next year...That would be awesome! Thanks again.

I really enjoyed the songs Jim. Thanks for sharing. :D

I'm curious, how does a keyboard player/composer from South Carolina hook up with a vocalist from Italy :?:
At first when you said Alex was from Italy I thought he now lives in the States, but when you said he still lives there and you communicate by streaming video I was dumbfounded. Technology is amazing! Sounds like an interesting backstory.

Thanks! Yeah, we communicate through a website called Skype. It's free and you can talk to anyone, anywhere in the world! Sometimes we'll get long winded telling stories, and before you know it, we've been yapping for over an hour!  We've become pretty close friends over the last year and a half, and have shared a lot hilarious stories. It's been a great experience. We both have webcams, so we can talk as well as have video. I'm new to the whole webcam thing, but I really feel like I know him much better now after being able to see eachother while we're talking. It's really cool! We can almost jam together, and I run ideas by him on the keys all the time, live. It's not as hard as you'd think. I do have to admit though, that it's still not the same as sitting down in the same room with a singer/guitarist. I always get inspired by sitting down with other musicians. I sat down with my old singer for about an hour one time, and basically wrote 4 songs in that time period! When Alex makes it down here (maybe next month), I'll be able to write 2 albums worth of material in a weeks time! I really can't wait.

I just checked it out, and it took a second to load. Do you have other websites running at the same time? Maybe your bandwidth is a little slow. Sometimes if I check out peoples songs on myspace, I have to pause the songs and let them load a little first before I play them. Myspace does a great job, but because of the size of my song files, I have to put VERY low quality versions of my songs up there. If I try to put higher quality samples on there...they won't play at all when you try to click on them. It's amazing how much detail you lose on songs if you have to dummy them down like that! The original versions sound MUCH better. Hopefully some of this info will help. I really hope you get to hear it!

Thanks, art and music have the same struggles to get "known". Right now I have a successful artist who has taken intrest in my work trying to help promote me.

What do you have going to get your work out there? You do have great stuff!

Really, my music gets no promotion at all (other than the shameless plugs in here sometimes!). I started out on myspace a little over a year ago with friends and family, and it has just started snowballing ever since. It blows my mind that people have listened to my songs over 12000 times! For someone like me who isn't playing out or getting the normal kind of promotions...it's deflinitely picking up. I just do it as a hobby. If I were gigging, I could see where the interest would be coming from, but I'm not. I'm just excited about the whole thing and want to get this album finished.

Just a quick update...I just posted take two of "Sooner Or Later". A lot of it still has to be re-recorded, but Alex added his first take on the guitars today, and I added some effects, eq, and some backing vocals. Alex is definitely re-recording all the guitars, and he knows the intro guitars need some tweaking. Once he re-records the lead vocals and guitars tomorrow (hopefully!), I'll re-record my backing vocals and get the newest version on myspace. This song is REALLY starting to grow on me and kick ass (if I must say so myself!).  I think it's one of the best songs we've done. I hope you like it...

Thanks Rick (and MG). It's SLOWLY getting there. Everything guitar and vocal-wise on this song is being re-recorded. I was just anxious to get a newer version up there to replace the other one. I think you'll like the next version a lot better, and I'll be spending a lot of time trying to get the backing vocals bigger and better!

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I swear...it seems like it's taking us forever to get this train rolling. It doesn't help that we're separated by thousands of miles!  It looks like Alex won't be able to make it here until May now. We will get this album done though with, or without label support.

I just can't wait to hear these songs once we take them into a real studio and add live drums. It'll sound so much more dynamic, and we'll be able to really stack the hell out of the vocals to give it that larger-than-life sound!

Jimbo those tracks are all great!

Atmospheric - which is a great achievement to say I am listening on laptop speakers.

Very professional.
Enjoyed them very much.
You are on keyboards, yes? Fab.
Love the singer's voice, too.

xxx

P.S. Angel made me think of Jimi Jamieson - The Search is over. Your guy's tone reminds me of Jimi's on that.
Beautiful.
