OT: Anyone know anything about Dobros?

Postby Suzanne » Thu Mar 12, 2009 3:10 am

I want to purchase a Dobro for my boyfriend and have gone to Musicians Friend's website. I don't know what to look for because I know nothing about them. I don't want the most expensive one but don't want the cheapest. Do I? He wants one but still needs to learn to play it so I don't need the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I know zip about Dobros, but I love the way they sound.

Here is a tune by Jerry Douglas.

Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew, tune up your dobro

I agree with larry. I'm a guitar player and I'd wanna pick my own out as well. But you're an awesome girlfriend for even thinking this up on your own. So much cooler than clothes or cologne!

My father-in-law is in an old-fart country fiddle band  and he plays a dobro. He brought it when he came to visit us last year and strummed a few tunes, cool sounding instrument. He only just learned to play recently and he's in his seventies!
