Nope. I had a similar thread a few months back. The guy says he's "the voice of this generation". Um, no you're the voice of prejudice and too much fame. Can't stand him. Also, on American Idol- to use THAT MUCH Autotune in a "live" performance was ridiculously embarrassing (yet the freakin' "audience" ate it up). He and P'Diddy are the most overblown, over celebrat-ized people I've seen in years.

Why the hell would you need Autotune on a rap vocal. Pathetic.

If he's the voice of a generation, I'm no part of it. Fuckin idiots

You know.....I'm having a rough time blaming the youth. They are being force-fed this garbage 24/7. Shows like this are telling kids what to like, what to vote for, what to listen to. I remember the 80s when it was British New Wave, pop, or heavy meta/Glam/Hairbands....Unless your parents were heavy into music, or you had an older sibling who let you actually hang around - you were pre-destined to get force-fed what was on the radio/MTV. I admit that today it is just 100X worse than 25-30 years ago....but you can't blame these kids for getting into what is surrounding them all day, all week, all year. Can you?

Sure can, any one with half a brain can go on the computer and educate themselves, discover new music etc.

The shit is objectively BAD. It's not music. Shit, even disco was performed well when it was in its hey day. You can debate the merits of different genres of music from different time periods, but I always say there's one constant with older music: Whatever it was, it was GENERALLY performed very well and had melody and instrumentation. Going into Pro Tools, Autotuning rhymed spoken vulgarities over a 2-bar MIDI loop is not music and it's not performance. Only talking about the music here because we don't need another damned political thread around here

YUP. They're being guided by EVERYTHING to 'know' what's hot and what's not. Every generation gets that and I suppose we sound like the parents in the 50s when Elvis came on the scene. I mean, it was "The Devil's Music", etc., etc.
It's pretty much each generation's goal to push things a bit further than their parents generation, but still.... Kanye West? Ugh...

Does anyone really think we'll be looking upon Kanye, Jay-Z, Nickelback, and Britney Spears in 2060 the same way we look at Elvis? Does anyone think we'll be looking at them at all?

My biggest beef with Kanye mostly stems from me simply thinking he is not talented, period. I don't like rap, but there are artists that I at least think are halfway talented, but Kanye? I don't get it.

I've heard some pretty inventive and creative rap lyrics. Some of them are talented with words and catchy rhymes. But the rest of it as a whole isn't music.

Oh, I didn't mean that... I don't mean that 'he's as big as Elvis, or the Beatles, or Slim Whitman', I just meant that he's what's being put onto kids right now.

I dunno if kids will revere him the way we did with Elvis, etc. or not. I know that back in the 90s you'd have gotten beat up if you liked Vanilla Ice. Now, that song of his... people love it. Same with Disco. In the 70s, so many people hated it. Now, it's still huge in clubs.
Even Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. If anyone would've told me that thousands would've held a vigil for him and wept like he was John Lennon, I would've said "You're outta yer mind".

Every generation has their heroes. Guess Kanye's is one of this generation's heroes. In the immortal words of Charlie Brown "We're doomed".

NOT true. Elvis was a great vocalist. I'm not talking 70s, heavy, incoherent Elvis. 50s and 60s Elvis was a really good vocalist. The problem with Elvis was that he was given a lot of crappy material.

Listen to some of his gospel stuff. He does some great stuff vocally. I've heard people lament his vocal prowess before and I just don't agree. Great singer.

For real, dude! Elvis was a phenominal singer AND a great preformer.

Oh, and Kanye DOES suck, just for the record! Diddy looks like Robert Johnson up next to him.

Oh boy. Elvis' spectacular voice never left him, even at the end when he was a mess, he still showed flashes of what he could do.

Listen to Elvis sing MY Way and then say he's a "horrible" singer  You'll look silly.

I have three rap albums, and a couple assorted rap singles.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre is the only rap album I like... so nasty man, SO nasty.

and I DO like Kanye's "Flashing Lights." The rest of his stuff I don't have an opinion on yet.
