I was going to say the same thing. To my untrained ear, the songs sound correct. His third night in a row and he sounds good, but I still think the back to backs are going to get bite them in the ass eventually.
That DSB arrangement might have been done before with Augeri, but still something different so nice. They used to do this with Perry on WITS with a long intro and and some adlib around the guitar solo near the end of the song.

This arrangement puts some balls into the center. Sorry, but Arnel tears it up. It's really good.

I'm going to hit an old wound here but if they could have practiced and did this during the SuperBowl, it would have been awesome. They probably wouldn't have been given enough airtime though as it extends the song to over 5 minutes.

Gunbot wrote:Maybe I'm wrong but the audience chants during songs always seem to go over well at the overseas shows but you never see it done here in the states. I'm not just talking about Journey either. Are we just too arrogant or ignorant for this type of stuff in the states?

Not tuned down. But dang, the japanese guy that's singing with them in the audience sure is!
Nice to hear them changing up the songs. Nice piano solo by Cain. Seems they took the same approach for this as SW - "Put a solo before the real solo". This song has always been dumb to me.

You don't think his wails are out of rhythm?

Out of rhythm has nothing to do with what key the song's in. Also, I always see this as a kind of 'scat'. Basically, free form vocalizing. Perry did it. Augeri did it... all singers do it. I don't think his wails are out of rhythm. They're unexpected because they're different, but from what I can tell from this recording, they work fine. It's not a train wreck or anything. The stuff he does at the end of the song before the guitar solo is awesome. The actual ending sounds like it was supposed to just be Neal and Arnel sang over the top. I think it's pretty cool actually. Sounds like Journey actually has a bit of fire under their ass on these old songs.

The question is would they do these arrangements in the states. I guess we'll see when the Hawaii shows roll around. These venues were pretty small, 2,400 people tops. I think the camera swung around to both sides and I was like, "What, are they inside an assembly room?"
PianoMan1986 wrote:I'm not criticizing on this, just pointing it out, ok?
If you take the SW clip from Osaka and then quick jump to the footage taken from their Chicago show, I think you'll hear a difference, although I could be wrong and if I am, someone please call me on it.

I think with editing, they could get away with it. Just as long as they don't put "Sellout Crowd" anywhere in the packaging summary.
There are still over 20k tickets unsold and no walk up ticket booth outside the venue, but I got to believe that somehow some of these tickets will be distributed even if they have to give them away.
I think it's safe to say they won't be hitting Manila again anytime soon.
