finally some videos. But I wish they were of different songs instead of the same old two. Arnel sounds really good. I like the DSB change-up for something new.

These both sound like they're in the original key and not detuned as the clip of Wheel in the Sky that we heard the other day. I suppose it's possible that the camera or even Youtube could've tweaked the key. I know that when looking things up on Youtube, the key sounds different for other songs. Dang, look up Badfinger's "Come and Get It". Each video sounds like a different key.

These clips sound great to me. There WAS a new arrangement for the middle break there of SW. Very cool twist.

I was going to say the same thing. To my untrained ear, the songs sound correct. His third night in a row and he sounds good, but I still think the back to backs are going to get bite them in the ass eventually.

That DSB arrangement might have been done before with Augeri, but still something different so nice. They used to do this with Perry on WITS with a long intro and and some adlib around the guitar solo near the end of the song.

I compared it to a Houston 81 clip and they sounded the same (keywise). On first hearing it, I knew it was in the same key, but I didn't want to post that and be wrong! Yikes!
Arnel's been doing clubs for a long time before Journey. I think that he'll be fine.

Oh yeah, new arrangement for DSB too. Actually, not new. They did that same thing with Augeri too. I always liked this. I think that Cain did it with Augeri, but Arnel does it MUCH better. It's a great way to do the song.

If they are playing around with the arrangements a little or feel comfortable enough for a little improv then I say KICK ASS. But gawd I hate DSB nowadays.....

This arrangement puts some balls into the center. Sorry, but Arnel tears it up. It's really good.

I'm going to hit an old wound here but if they could have practiced and did this during the SuperBowl, it would have been awesome. They probably wouldn't have been given enough airtime though as it extends the song to over 5 minutes.

Agreed, but it's old news at this point. I still wonder why they took such a casual approach to that, but it's over. THIS performance kicks serious ass. So does SW.
Seems that Japan shows are usually good. The Perry ones are some of the best videos I've ever seen of the band.

Definitely. Good start for their spring tour.

Maybe I'm wrong but the audience chants during songs always seem to go over well at the overseas shows but you never see it done here in the states. I'm not just talking about Journey either. Are we just too arrogant or ignorant for this type of stuff in the states?

YES.

Americans are just too cool. Having said that, I do that kind of stuff in my band's shows and the bars and casinos ALWAYS get into it. I think at actual concerts, people are just so concerned about how cool they look. However, I didn't see that problem at U2 or Greenday, just at "classic rock" shows.

Yep, just like on the 2001 dvd, except that Cain doesn't sing this time around.

I like the new Separate Ways. It's SO nice to see them mixing things up a little bit. A breath of fresh air. Although are we sure the songs aren't tuned down? It still sounds like it to me.

Okay I see what they're doing now. This actually sounds like it is out of tune, and he seems to get lost somewhere in the middle of the song a little bit, to me anyway. Since he doesn't do those insane long notes I think it throws off his timing.

Not tuned down. But dang, the japanese guy that's singing with them in the audience sure is!

Nice to hear them changing up the songs. Nice piano solo by Cain. Seems they took the same approach for this as SW - "Put a solo before the real solo". This song has always been dumb to me.

You don't think his wails are out of rhythm?

Out of rhythm has nothing to do with what key the song's in. Also, I always see this as a kind of 'scat'. Basically, free form vocalizing. Perry did it. Augeri did it... all singers do it. I don't think his wails are out of rhythm. They're unexpected because they're different, but from what I can tell from this recording, they work fine. It's not a train wreck or anything. The stuff he does at the end of the song before the guitar solo is awesome. The actual ending sounds like it was supposed to just be Neal and Arnel sang over the top. I think it's pretty cool actually. Sounds like Journey actually has a bit of fire under their ass on these old songs. It's about friggin' time.

The question is would they do these arrangements in the states. I guess we'll see when the Hawaii shows roll around. These venues were pretty small, 2,400 people tops. I think the camera swung around to both sides and I was like, "What, are they inside an assembly room?"

I'm not criticizing on this, just pointing it out, ok?

If you take the SW clip from Osaka and then quick jump to the footage taken from their Chicago show, I think you'll hear a difference, although I could be wrong and if I am, someone please call me on it.

I hope they do. They're cool changes, all 3 of them.

Are you talking about keys? I didn't hear a difference when comparing to other clips. Without a guitar in my hand, I can't be sure, but it sounded the same to me.

I like the "Don't Stop" additional a lot...always wondered why they didn't continue that

Separate Ways was cool too. Couldn't hear Anyway You Want it well enough.

What happened to all the talk about a possible DVD being filmed. This show would have been perfect for that, with the extended versions and all. If Journey only sells 20k out of 32k seats in Manila (which is looking like a strong possibility), do you still film there and just avoid long crowd shots?

20 out of 32 could be doable. Remember the audience shots on the Live 2001 DVD??

I think with editing, they could get away with it. Just as long as they don't put "Sellout Crowd" anywhere in the packaging summary.

There are still over 20k tickets unsold and no walk up ticket booth outside the venue, but I got to believe that somehow some of these tickets will be distributed even if they have to give them away.
I think it's safe to say they won't be hitting Manila again anytime soon.

They could upgrade the cheap seats and curtain off the back. Then it "could" be a a sellout! ;)

Okay after checking the layout, they could do it.

Gunbot, the Mossimo store inside the mall sells tickets. Most common Filipinos don't buy tickets online. We may still get suprised by a surge. When another popular group was there, most tickets were sold in the last hours before the show. As for a DVD, Arnel is most likely gonna be as comfortable as ever in his own home environment, among his people. That could make for one of the best opportunities ever, as far as making a DVD.
