Journey are in the lineup with such acts as Def Leppard, Slipknot, Marilyn manson and ZZ Top.

They seem to be going for the big Rock and Metal festivals this year! Quite low on the bill for my liking though.[/url]

Why is that strange?? Journey has had an extremely successful year both touring and with a major album. If Def Leppard can do it, then Journey can definetly do it. Journey is alot better band, especially live!

So many bands on that bill are either influenced by or similar to Journey in some way, how's this strange?

Keep in mind that they aren't too big in England, that may explain them being a bit further down the bill.

Wow Journey isnt even up there on the website with the others like Def Leppard, Whitesnake, MOtley Crue, Slipnot, zztop...ect. Thats kind of a slap in the face, there way down the list with a bunch of bands I have never heard of. It makes sense now why Journey toured mostly in America where they will almost always be considered headliners. Motley Crue, ZZtop, korn, and Slipnot are actually more popular than Journey in the UK?? Really hard to believe.

Damn, that's a tasty line-up. If I went (and I certainly hope to) Journey would definately be the cherry on the cake.

There is talk of making the sunday - "Stadium Rock" Day - this would possibly mean Journey, Whitesnake, Lippard, Tesla, Crue, ZZ Top all on the same day - in which case its a good lineup and Journey can slay the lot of them - although ZZ Top will be great.

I saw that and was shocked too -but, a lot of those bands appear on that poster in the order they were confirmed - not even in the UK are those bands bigger than Journey.

Why is it that people seem to be under the impression that Journey are hugely popular in the UK when they blatantly are NOT. Journey have NEVER been popular in the UK.
Ask any general music fan in the UK if they have heard of Lippard, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Jovi, Crue,or even the likes of Slipknot or Korn and the answer will be 'Of course'. Then throw Journey's name in there and the answer will pretty much be 'Who?'
Journey can play to a maximum of 3,500 people over in the UK, and thats it. They tried and FAILED, to play to over 5,000 in my hometown in 2007, and it was embarrassing to see nearly half the arena empty. They have never had chart success, and have never been popular. Radio stations have barely never played their stuff from any era.
The chances were always there for Journey in the early to mid 80's to get over here and play to the fans that they had but they never did, thanks to Perry. They maybe could have had success over here way back then, but blew it.
Journey are NOT popular in the UK. Do not be fooled into thinking they are.

What the hell did Perry have to do with them not playing the UK in the early 80s? My understanding was Herbie pretty much wrote off touring Europe as a whole as being uneconomical after the late seventies tours.

If they have a stadium rock day then fantastic, that will work really well. But if they are just thrown in there then it WILL be strange. I love Journey but no fucker knows who they apart from occasionaly DSB or when I say, "Remember that song on the end of The Simpson episode with Mr Burn's Son when they all start dancing?"

I can see it being a shambles. Let's hope not though, there taking a risk which is nice to see.

I'm sure Schon said something about Perry not thinking it was worth while?

Truer words have never been spoken.
None of my friends are aware of Journey, except one who is a classic rock junkie (like me).

What makes me ponder is that because of their unpopularity in the UK, would that mean that Steve Perry won't play in the UK SHOULD he so happen to tour with this upcoming album? Does that mean I've got to get myself a plane ticket to the US or wherever the hell he is playing? I highly doubt he would tour, but I'm just saying IF.

Why didn't they come over here on the Escape and Frontiers tours? They could have been right up there with Whitesnake, Leppard and Bon Jovi if they did.

I remember reading somewhere that Journey was so huge in the states that they had no real interest to tour outside the U.S. much. They did tour Japan, and Canada quite a bit, but didnt really go to the U.K. that much. They really didnt have to either, they were making loads of money and are one of the top selling artists in the states. I guess why travel all over the world, when your getting all this success right at home? That probably had alot to do with Journey not being as popular in the U.K. as the states. As far as saying Journey is not even heard of in the U.K, that is just not true. Lets be realistic people.

I wouldn't say they aren't heard of but being 20 years old if you go to most people my age and ask them about Journey they would ask 'who?'. Yet if you ask about most of the bands mentioned above they would know. It is a real shame! I go to a specialist music college and people still havent heard of them on the most part!!!

Yeah after 1981, once they got HUGE in the U.S., they just quit touring in the U.K. I really dont know if it was a Perry decision or Journey's decision as a whole to basically just tour in and around the United States, since they were really big now.

Something about tea, Queens and bad teeth. That's what I heard Perry's excuse was.

Side point- Props to a few in this thread who have adopted the new name, and deservedly so, of Def Lippard. Nice to see others can detect the crap that band emanates. :o

Skipping Europe doesn't seem to have hurt Perry too much financially.

The last time Journey toured the U.K. with Perry was Sep. 22, 1980 London, England. After that it was basically the states, Canada, and Japan.

On a serious note, if this is the case, then Herbie was incredibly short-sighted. The world economy was neglected in favour of domestic only USA tours? It has turned out to really hurt them if this is the case. Hell, even Canada is lucky to see 1 or 2 dates on current tours. Journey has severely been hampered, restricted to USA region, and thus their tour sales as well as cd sales will show the difference vs some bands who adopted a world view philosophy.

Exactly. Journey was big enough in the states, there attitude seemed to be that they didnt need to go all over the world. And even though they did not tour outside the United States that much, they still managed to sell over 30 million albums outside the states. I often wonder though if they would have toured the world more in their heyday, how much more popular they would be.

Frontiers was a top ten album - thats reasonably good chart success. Classic Rock magazine loves them and gave them a great review when they played Monster of Rock and any party i go to and play DSB always gets an amazing crowd reception from 50 year old to 16 year old guys n girls singing along with every word. I attended a show in Glasgow with a great crowd - esp. considering the tour had very little real publicity. They do pretty well over here.

I didnt know the Frontiers thing. And everyone loves DSB when its played at a few of the nightclubs here in Liverpool but most dont know the name of the band, and those who do dont know any other songs by them.

They do reasonably well when touring over here but thats mainly only because of the die hard fans.. I can see there being many at this festival
