The added part is great.
Love how Neal brings it back into the song.

Something that impresses be about Arnel is his breath control; he's got a set of lungs on him. Which is surprising, considering how active he is on stage. But no one can touch Deen in that department.

Here's "Open Arms" from the Maui concert on the 23rd:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOAY-P0aJ6c

Edit: I really like this one, because it's close enough and quiet enough that you can hear the interaction between Jonathan and Neal in the prelude to the song. The acoustics echo Neal's guitar in a very impressive manner.

um....

"You see this microphone over here....?????"

Arnel nearly smacks it a few times. Wonder if that was for recording or for in ears (live crowd mic).

By the way, this video obviously show's a band and singer that nobody likes. I give them until next Tuesday before Neal quits in frustration.

;)

How anyone can say Journey is not knocking them dead with this lineup is completely beyond me. I haven't seen crowds like them this much since.... well, you know. They're kicking ass.

He says that or are you quoting Perry from Captured?

Captured. It was me using the line to point out the mics.

You know what disturbs me about most Journey fans? The rockers are woefully neglected. Where the fuck are "Wildest Dream" and "Change For the Better" and "Only the Young" and everything else in these videos?

maybe just not posted yet? Wildest Dreams kicks ass. I play that one LOUD.

I think I'm with Stevew2- kinda burned out on Cain's solos. They all sound the same to me.

I love it, but as with all musical things I love, I am critical. In my iPod, for example, you can't hear shit other than Arnel. Which is great, he's got a fantastic voice, but that particular song is not a one man show. It's a major melodies-and-rhythm song. On the Revelation DVD, it sucked because I couldn't hear Arnel at all. They went from one extreme to the other.

Now on the live samples I've seen on Youtube (and from my own experience live), they tailored it perfectly. Made it a little faster, made sure the backing vox were cranked up, and it complemented Arnel's voice perfectly.

Concert-wise, it's in my top three favorites.

This year? Sure. Overall? Hell no. The Arrival piano solo sucks and is much different from the masterpiece he played this year. Much worthier of a rock concert.

Interesting you mentioned that about the dvd. I noticed that in a few spots too.

I noticed it a lot. And that's my big fear about the DVD in Manila.

Think I'm just bored of piano solos. I still like the Houston one, but the rest just kinda drag the show to a hault for me... it also doesn't help that you pretty much know what's coming after it.

What'd be cool is if Journey came to the front of the stage, and did the beginning of "People and Places" completely acapella. Then went into something else. That'd rock much more than another Cain solo. OR, do the end harmonies of "Girl Can't Help It" then went into ROR. That'd kill me.

Holy crap, listen to how quietly Arnel sings the beginning of this tune. That's not easy. Good job. That's one of the things about the Escape version that's so cool. The dynamics Perry uses are awesome on the studio track.

It's impressive. More impressive is when he goes from that to throwing some power into the song.

That clip of "What I Needed" is damn impressive, and Arnel throws some badass battle cries towards the end. Right now, though, I'm watching the crowd go apeshit for "Change for the Better", my favorite Revelation song.

Cool how they're PLAYING "Majestic" now instead of just rolling a tape of it. Cool.
Just after they play Majestic and go into NWA- Arnel runs out on the stage and the crowd goes apeshit.
Well deserved. I think his vocal on this version's better than the recorded one. I don't think I've heard Neal play out of key before. Oops.

You need to bask in the glory of "Change for the Better." It's the "Escape" of the new millennium. I used to think "Escape" was just okay, but I love it now. It and "Higher Place" better find its way into the setlists. They can shitcan LTS.

Escape is a longtime favorite of mine. To this day, Arnel's the ONLY one I've heard do it justice live.

He does it very well.

So does that mean you like CftB, too? (there is only one answer that shall be accepted)

Of course, it's a great tune. Sick to death of LTS and Lights.

Does the short intro to E5C4P3 on the Houston DVD have a name? Love that.
