The Tube is a wonderful thing and definitely the best way to get around; if you are driving to London, you are far better off leaving the car in the outer suburbs and taking the tube to where you need to go. Driving in London is shitty, and the tube is often faster, plus you don't need to worry about parking then. The time tables are more accurate timewise than the buses, too. Day tickets are a Good Thing, and work for buses as well as the trains.
If you are going to do touristy-shit, pick a rainy weekday and take an umbrella - almost no crowds.
Cabbies don't like crossing the river if they can help it, especially going from the city south. If you can, take a minicab - it's irritating that you can't hail them, but they're generally a fair bit cheaper than a black cab.
It's worthwhile picking up an AtoZ, even for a short trip; London is hellishly tricky to navigate cold, and Londoners have an odd attitude to giving directions.

Have fun!

i'm so envious! you picked a good venue. the sound & comfort level will be way better than the outdoor festivals.

i highly recommend the tube for transportation. i find it's easier to navigate than nyc's subway or chicago's el.

Hey, we got the L running right into both airports, lady, what more you want?

but you people don't have a cool looking tube map! i think it's the map & big, clear signage that i'm so impressed with. i can figure out where to board the correct train or exit to the correct street while i'm moving along in a big crowd. i can just glance at the signs & not have to stop & get trampled by the annoyed locals.

That's how it is in Tokyo too, better to to take the train. Of course you need to learn a little kanji for those out of the way places that don't have English characters showing their names.

England has the better system, at least when I was there in the early nineties. Can't go wrong with the tube.

I'm pretty sure you just like saying "riding the tube". "Taking the L" just doesn't have the same "laugh like you're a 12 year old boy" effect.

You do have a point about the annoyed locals though. We have lots of those here.

I have been there a few times. From what I remember you don't want to be on the balcony, or directly underneath it, as the sound can get a bit muddy. If you like a few beers I strongly suggest you have a few before you go in, unless you like your beer warm and served in plastic tumblers.
