Arnel Solo Album?

Just curious. If Arnel would, for whatever reason, leave Journey, would his time with the band make you want to buy a solo album of his?

Yes.
I mean, why not?
I ordered Tall Stories' CD awhile back, and I'm trying to find a source for Jeff's and Jeremey's stuff.

Just like a Journey album, I would have to hear it first. If he did a very Journey-esque solo than it is likely I would. But anything else, I need to hear it.

Unless Cain writes all the music for it, It will probably sound completely different from Journey, like SP's FTLOSM, which some people here abhor.

True, but which many others love.

Depends on the album. He's already got one out that was done a while back. Not my kind of thing.

Yes. I had the Zoo's Zoology album sent from the PI. I'll do the same with Arnel's future solo albums

I would think anything he released solo would be for his Filipino fans, which means a steady dose of Ballads. You would suddenly be without two of the genre's most talented musicians/Songwriters in rock, it is just too hypothetical a question.

Let's make this interesting. What if a couple of cuts in the CD will have guest appearance by Jon or Neal or even Deen. Would you buy it?

I would like to hear it first, (coming to youtube near yah), then decide whether it's worth the $10 price.

I would rather have guest appearances on it from, say, Charice or other Filipino artists.

I am curious to know why you have a strong feeling against buying an Arnel album.

I'd like to know that too.

But, honestly, that's how I feel about a Steve Perry solo album anymore. FtLoSM was fantastic, vocally, but it made me lose all faith in his ability to write a song. Lyrically, it was a trainwreck.

As for Arnel, it strongly depends on the quality of the songs. Like Perry, he has a fantastic voice, but depends on other factors as well.

I still haven't purchased Perry's or Augeri's solo albums yet... Arnel's is not on the agenda either.

I'm a Journey fan, and a fan of Steve Perry with Journey - period. I can tolerate Perry-impersonators only because Perry is missing in action, and a Journey with a Perry-emulator is better than no Journey at all in my book. The hits that Journey made with Perry will never be replicated with another singer on a new album.

Because they still don't realize

IT'S NO LONGER 1983.

Good point.

A Perry impersonator is akin to having sex with a dildo.

I agree. I'm happy that Arnel got his big break tho and I hope that it takes him far.

And since "the real deal" is impotent, it's (presumably [never had sex with a dildo, myself]) better than nothing.

Probably not, to be honest.
I don't buy albums, and though I love how he puts on a live show with Journey, I probably wouldn't care about what he put out on his onesie.

Nothing personal and no knock at his talent. Just my own apathy. :)

You mentioned in the past that Pinoy music fans love ballads. While that is true in the 80s and 90s, that is no longer the case now. You may recall that a Pinoy alternative rock band called Eraserheads sold more than twice the amount of tickets than Journey managed to sell. That was their 2nd reunion concert in less than a year and was held a week before Journey held their Manila concert.

I do agree though that majority of Arnel's fans like ballads.

I'm happy Arnel got his big break too and I hope he continues his success, but the question was whether we would buy an Arnel solo album.

I thought the question was about dildos? :)

Actually, I have three stipulations before I buy a Perry, Soto, Augeri, Arnel, Jesus solo album:

1.) It must be well written.
2.) It must be well performed.
3.) It must rock.

If it doesn't meet all three responsibilities, it doesn't meet its burden, and is therefore lumped into the SHIT category.

Hey, I added on to her comparison to Arnel as a giant dildo with Perry being a man who can't get it up, and you bastards ignored it.
