OT: Very Disturbing Movies

With props to StoneCold who always comes up with interesting topics, the other day as I was on his thread about depressing movies it got me to thinking about movies that I found very disturbing. These are movies that you think about for weeks or even years after you see them. For me the movie I find to be the most disturbing was "Fraility" a 2001 film starring Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey, & Powers Boothe. I can't remember when a movie affected me the way this one did. Very disturbing.

I also thought that "Repulsion" directed by Roman Polanski 1965 and starring Catherine Deneuve a psychothriller about a beautiful young woman who is going insane, was a very creepy and disturbing film.

So what movies keep you awake at night :?: :?: :?:

The Bridge

This film is disturbing on many levels. The fact that it was made to start with.

The most disturbing scene to me is the last one. I don't believe anyone that sees it will ever forget it or Gene.

Gene Sprague talked of suicide for a long time and to witness him finally give up is sad. None of his friends were able to convince him suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems.

His journal:

If you're so inclinded to see this, here's the first segment. The others are on the side. Gene is seen throughout.

I watched "Mother's Boys" last night, starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Very disturbing film, and Jamie Lee pulls off an amazingly convincing sociopath.

Agreed, disturbing but very interesting movie. Also unbelievable what he did to his body for this role. Some say he did permanent damage which will show up later.

Maybe why he's always an angry young man?

Eye for an Eye was pretty disturbing.

I can NOT take rape scenes, it makes me nausious and that's just not my thing. If I'm watching a movie that a rape might take place, I avoid it, or walk out of the room, so that was disturbing to me.

Sleepers was also, with Robert DeNiro, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, and Dustin Hoffman, where they tortured those little kids in prison. That was bad also.

Haven't seen it, but even though he's kind of a jerk, Christian Bale is an excellent actor. I'll definitely check this one out. Thanks

I find myself making stupid sarcastic comments using the voices of and quoting the penguins from Madagascar. I think that's very disturbing.

Yes, Deacon, it's the old do as I say not as I do routine. But I guess if you have lots of money a Nobel prize and an Oscar you can just buy some of those ol' carbon credits to light up that mansion and put fuel in the big houseboat and the rest of the world can just turn their lights off and walk to work. :D
