Watching video's of this new line-up, and watching the emotion in EVERY SINGLE video of top notch ENERGY just pouring out of each band members souls, I can't help but feel good for Neal Schon every time he smiles and realizes he has his band back to 100% and then some.

Back in '05, you could see in Neal's appearance that he didn't have it together, and that Journey was going down with him. I get the sense that wherever Neal goes, Journey goes with him, whether it be in the right, or wrong direction. Several years back, (we all know publicly of Neal's personal problems) it just seemed he wasn't all there and wasn't enjoying anything that the music brought on stage. Comparing his appearance then, to now, speaks on where the band was then, and where they stand today.

By the way, the '09 picture is a bad one. From that angle, he looks stoned and his hair is receding. Get a better one if you're going to compare appearances, because it looks like he's went downhill (which isn't your point).

Good Call, I changed it to show evidence of him rocking the HELL out of Never Walk Away in Vegas. He's in the zone and ready to kick some white, black, brown, yellow, and green ASS.

I don't know if it was the camera or merely my laptop, but the recent videos from Hawaii give the appearance that he's been lifting weights. Judging from those videos and the pictures uploaded by Maui Tom et al., it seems like he's much healthier.

Right. And for the longest time after that interview, I was like: "Jesus, Neal, the man deserves money for the songs he wrote." But Herbie says in the Castles Burning interview that it's more or less a six way split when they tour.

So that explains Neal's frustrated comments to GQ.

And whether anyone wants to hear it or not, we all know that OA is the song that EXPLODED Journey as the biggest band in the world at that time.

So, hell yea, pay SMFP everytime you pay tribute to him on stage. If he hadn't sung those songs, nobody ever would have heard them.

That's a great video. My favorite that I've viewed quite a bit is What I Needed in Manila. The extended version of that song is flat-out amazing. Powerful vocals. Neal at his best.

Back in '05 Neal was in his own words a "functional alcoholic". He didn't have it together and wasn't enjoying his life I'm sure. I'm happy for him that he is now happy, healthy and making great music again.

You've all but sealed something I've long maintained. Perry can't let go of the past. Whether it was Journey trying to move on without him when he wouldn't tour anymore or him asking them to change the name, it's all about him grasping at whatever straw he can to live vicariously through their touring or trying to "one up" them by getting an equal share, and winning some small battle in his troubled mind. Funny how he didn't care if Journey changed their name when he joined and they ousted Fleischmann. And you need to take a look at TNC's signature. I believe it says "The very name Journey implies change and have to go with that." Steve Perry said that. That makes him the model of hypocrisy.

The fact that he got paid an equal share leads me to believe that they had to buy out his share of the corporation and he wasn't willing to do so without being an asshole or that he had wrestled majority control from Neal. At any rate, it shows a guy grasping to the past who is afraid of letting go of something for fear of being forgotten. He seems to have massive confidence issues and this is a glaring example of him taking extreme measures to ensure that he's not forgotten. No wonder people call his fans "loons." He's the very definition of that term.
