I wonder how many times a show just barely gets off because of technical glitches, electrical problems, equipment failures and such. At the show in Dallas last summer, a tech worked on AP's wireless in-ear monitor device, off and on for 10 minutes or more.

I'll bet there are a bevy of great stories to be told about such issues.

In Nashville, last year, Arnel dropped his microphone during the beginning of "Wildest Dream", emitting some hellacious feedback. But the crew was Johnny-on-the-fucking-spot and ran out there with a replacement.

The most interesting example I saw was the first live show in the USA (New Mexico?) for the Revelation tour; Neal's guitar went out during "Only the Young" [no solo] and "Send Her My Love." The pure piano version of SHML wasn't bad at all; Jonathan did a great job. But Neal looked pissed.

My mother told me that his guitar tech probably died that night of mysterious circumstances.

I've seen Boston twice w/ Delp (RIP), and both times, the first 4 songs of the set sucked. They couldn't get any volume on the mix. Sounded like the guitars were unplugged and the mics were off. This happened twice at different venues so I chalk it up to Scholz's set-up being too complex and/or incompetent sound men.

Opening night in Denver last year we got a song and a half with no lead guitar because Neal's wireless rig died. He went right on playing, but you couldn't hear anything ... heard lots of Jon's piano during those songs ... I was front row, and I think Neal said, "fuck" 47 times while the techs rewired him into a setup with a cord.

I was at the second show on the '08 Boston tour, and then I went to another show in the middle of the tour. The first one was a bit glitchy but at that second show the mix was spot on.

I think both dates were in August, so, presumably at least midway through the tour. I honestly think there's just too much going on that stage to get it right until they're several songs in. I mean what, 4-5 guitars alone? Scholz, Pihl, Cosmos, and Brad on rhythm for many songs... damn.

At the ARF charity benefit concert in CA a couple of years ago, featuring Neal, JSS, Cain, and "friends", JC's keyboard would not play through the terrible sound system there, and they did DSB without the keyboard intro and without keyboard through most of the song. The funniest thing was when he was playing with the wires and trying to fix it, JSS and Neal were laughing and making fun the whole time. I remember another time too, where JC's harmonica was not playing through the sound sytem and he was blowing away, and we couldn't hear a damn thing! Hmmm, I see a pattern here.....

Yeah, I never saw them with Brad. It just seems like Boston in general takes quite a few shows on every tour to get back into the groove since they take longer breaks.

Maybe so, but it sucked because I missed out on Feelin Satisfied, Rock N Roll Band, Peace of Mind, and Don't Look Back both times. Couldn't hear them at all, especially the guitar leads. BTW, great Web site, Matt.

Mick's keyboard was not on the right setting for the encore last night, I Want To Know What Love Is. Kelly Hansen said wait. stop. something doesn't sound right and the tech guy came and reset the syth correctly.

I don't think I have ever heard anyone actually stop and start over.
