I've had the full concert of this show since about 1999 and always like the opening solo, but didn't recognize it from anything. Does anyone know if it is part of any of Neal's work, or is it just Neal playing around?

I don't recognize the solo, but it was a cool way to open the show. And did anyone else notice that Augeri seemed terrified to move? He does not move one time during the whole song!  But man, he comes up with some big vox at 4:22. 8)

PS Neal, don't chew gum while playing guitar. It looks stupid.

You mean that's not cool? Remember, this was his first Journey tour in awhile, he might have forgot what was cool and what isn't!
I just remember being there live in Cleveland and thinking they came out to a really cool guitar intro. I'm not sure if this was the same one or not as the Cleveland show. But I also have a different venue from this tour and it was basically the same tune as this, so my guess is that Cleveland would have been the same. Although this particular show played some different songs and skipped some of the Trial by Fire songs, so who knows.

I agree with you though about Augeri. Thats the one thing that stood out when I watch this concert now is that he doesn't move at all. To think that a few years later he would be running around and jumping/sitting on the piano. I'm guessing he either warmed up or someone told him that he doesn't work at the GAP anymore and he's now a frontman so start acting like it.

Intro was killer but SA's vocals are very weak & barely in tune.
Dec 1998 was not the first show.
I left NY 10/1/98 & Journey was about to play the Beacon in NY.

I saw Journey w/ SA on free tix from a radio show gosh guess it was about July 2000 or 2001 at the Glen Helen Arena in San Bernadino...otherwise known as the LA Outback
& SA actually sounded better than this or maybe it was vocally enhanced...

I'm sorry but this sounds like old dishwater////
Now JSS...his voice is like rich cordoba leather...
Marvelous!!!!

The crowd's screams gets Fro to look over and watch Augeri.

You can tell Fro's thinkin' "What the hell is he doing? Oh well, the crowd's diggin' it."
