Let's have them. No Steve Perry, Winger, Dokken, Jimi Jamison, Dennis DeYoung etc. here please!

I have many:

David Pack (Ambrosia/solo)
Burton Cummings (solo and Guess Who)
Eric Carmen (solo and Raspberries)
Layne Staley (Alice In Chains)
Gerry Beckley (America)
Carl Wilson (The Beach Boys)
Bill Champlin (Chicago/solo)
Robert Lamm (Chicago/solo)
Peter Cetera (Chicago/solo) -> Yeah, I know Chicago can sorta be considered 80s MR...
Don Henley
Frankie Valli
Levi Stubbs (Four Tops)
Robin Wilson (Gin Blossoms)
Glen Shorrock (Little River Band/BSG)
Wayne Nelson (Little River Band)
Donald Fagen (Steely Dan)
Kasim Sulton (Utopia/solo/Meat Loaf/etc)
James LaBrie (Dream Theater/solo/Ayreon/few others)

Alright, that's stupid long. I guess I just want a catalyst to talk about some music we don't get to around here as much... I know there's some people out there with some good diverse tastes.

Not sure if these all fit in the MR category, but those that come quickly to mind:

70's or earlier:
Roger Daltrey
Rod Stewart
Alexander Ligertwood
Robert Plant
Davey Pattison
Van Morrison
Greg Rolie
Phil Lynot
Mick Jagger

90's and beyond:
Chris Robinson
James LaBrie
Steve Augeri
Arnel Pineda
Kevin Chalfant
Jeff Kieth (stated in late 80s, but continues to rock)
CJ Snare

Haha, I was actually going for non-MR genre singers mainly. Just kinda added the non-80s tag to stress that. All the posturing and dick measuring about which Journey singer has the most range kinda wants me to get people to think outside the box and realize range and power are not the only ways to be a great vocalist. But you still listed some great singers that I wouldn't consider MR for the most part. Love most of those picks... I can't believe I forgot Phil Lynott. I love Jeff Keith too and I don't really consider Tesla "MR" in the same vein as Journey, Styx, or Survivor etc. Good picks.

I understand what your getting at with your post Matt, but a lot of these people had hits or popular albums in the 80's! A few of them didn't, but most did. I think you should do a do-over. Say "favorite singer's from the 70's, or 90's". Just a suggestion. Most of my favorite singers had albums in several decades, and it might be hard to find one that ONLY say in the 70's. Hell, I'm just rambling on here now...I'll STFU!

I know I know. I just didn't want the usual suspects. It was really favorite singers outside the cookie cutter melodic rock mold... as I said in my reply above, the "non-80s" tag was just to stress that since that was MR's heyday. Anyway, carry on. Where's your list at fucker?

They were my first concert ever, I think BSG were all there. Early 90s... 92 maybe. Their current line-up has put out two great albums and Greg Hind is a great singer and songwriter. They are still solid live. I do wish BSG would come over here and do a show too. I love the Full Circle DVD.

For those who know Colbie Caillat, Missy is similar but I love her voice so much more...and the Aussie accent kills me!

Phil Collins - guy has chops, admit it.
Burton Cummings - Not familiar with his solo stuff, but Guess Who kicks ass.
John Farnum - only in LRB, solo - BLEH
Steve Walsh - guy HAD chops. Dare anyone to come up with a better singer from '74-'77.
Ronnie James Dio - serious vocal skills. Sings about Kings and Castles...
Ian Gillan - 'nuff said.
Mike Levine/Rik Emmett - from '79-'86 these guys ruled.
Michael Sadler - As Saga's frontman Sadler belted out some gems during the late 70s - early 80s
