Message of Love cover?

^ Has anyone ever seen this? It's nothing particularly jaw-dropping, but I think it's a pretty solid cover all around of a fantastic song. I like the singer's take on it; particular the chorus moneyshots (love and callin').

The band itself is pretty impressive and well coordinated; unlike the Zoo during their Journey covers. But I really like this guy's take on it. He looks ancient, though.

Voice is ok, guitar's weak. FWII, a bar band, its ok.

Man, in places, that guy has Perry nailed. I like the tone of his voice, just not his phrasing so much.

I didn't detect a lot of similarities with Perry, actually. Maybe I should listen to it again.

Not a bad effort. At least someone's playing the damn song.

MoL is an excellent song. I realize that detractors point out that it's basically the younger sister of SW, but I prefer it to the original SW. The only version of SW that I think is remotely close to MoL is the revamped one with the extended jam session after Neal's solo.

Otherwise, MoL really kicks ass.

I agree about MoL being SW's younger sister, but I still very much like it. I will always prefer SW just on the single issue of the power behind Perry's voice on the track. I played the song on the jukebox the other night at a crowded bar, and the place went crazy the second that first unmistakable chord came off Cain's keys.

If I were in a bar...and the bar band started playing the tune like that....my beer glass would have suddenly become empty...I would have taken wifey to the dance floor...and later said that was frickin good. Do more Journey!

Nothing like a decent bar band, playing good music and slamming back a few cold ones. Come to think of it...nothing like the real deal, playing good music and slamming back a few cold ones.

Sorry. I've had to hang around politicians too much. Yes or no's are hard to come by. :)

It was a solid cover to a great song.

It could have been better in numerous avenues, though, such as vocals. He covered Perry's tone well in my opinion, but he didn't hit some of the crucial notes throughout the song. Again, my opinion.

JSS out of his range hey. To me, that's like saying Arnel pineda is out of his range :) same thing Gideon, same thing.

Lol.

I realize that JSS enjoys a certain celebrity status around here and, indeed, I've come to love much of his solo work, but Journey songs are driven by a strong tenor. "Message of Love" is no different.

Perry is a tenor. Augeri is a tenor. Arnel is a tenor. JSS is not. So, no... it's not the same thing at all.

Actually:

Perry's vocal classification is tenor altino, a term used to describe a man who sings in the highest possible male register (above tenor and including what would, if sung by a woman, be called alto or mezzo), using a natural or "chest" voice and employing falsetto only in his extreme upper register. Depending on whether the definition being used includes chest voice or is limited to falsetto only, this is also a form of countertenor.

Just sayin.

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.

Yes, he's demonstrated the range of a countertenor. Over the years, though, it withered. Even now, though, I'd say he's still a decently high tenor. Oh well. Range isn't everything.

Thanks for taking the time in quoting me, but it's all in vein my friend from across the sea :) It's all good and well quoting other peoples advise form the internet. This is where I have to question this. Are people singers, do they know how the voice actually works by demonstrating, (sometimes people may sound like they are singing low, where in fact they are actually singing high) singers will know this. As far as I am concerned unless people are good singers and fully understand the voice by actually learning, I don't see how anyone is qualified in having an answer, weather JSS is out of range or not. As a singer myself, I can't tell - I can't, and because JSS is superior to me IMO, and personally I don't think Message Of Love is a hard song to sing. Perry sang this song at the end of his career, and it was written for his voice at the time IMO.

It also doesn't help the fact people are trying to sing it like Steve Perry, and they simply cannot do it (that could be a contributing factor to why people end up losing their voice in the end)

It took roughly thirty seconds for me. But I realize, for others, mastering the quote function is a relatively daunting task.

Fantastic.

Back on topic, though, Soto's not a tenor. Perry is. Augeri is. Arnel is. So to imply that JSS and Arnel have comparable or exact ranges is pretty stupid. For the record, even if they were all tenors, it still doesn't mean that their ranges are comparable. Arnel's range seems to exceed Augeri's and Perry (in his prime) exceeded them both by a considerable amount.

Hold on a sec. here. This has always been my dam argument that SP owes nothing to no one, anybody at all. I mean no body. Screw who ever questions his dame voice change over the years and him not singing in 2 decades. No wonder AP is tuned down a step or so, no wonder so 3 singres before AP has been axed for reasons unknown.
