Frontiers Album

I was listening to Frontiers in my Truck today and Edge of the Blade came on. Man, Perrys vocals and Neals guitar were incredible on that song. I think they could play that tune on the radio today and the kids would really get into it. But,maybe its just my old man mind messing with me again. What do you think?

Thats what I have been thinking for a long time. Man the guy that pulled those two songs off at the last minute, really stupid move in my opinion. They would have had two more top 40 hits to add to that album so total they would have had "Separate ways"#8, "Faithfully" #12, "Send her my love"#23, "After the fall" #23, "only the young" #9, and "Ask the lonely" potential top 20 hit also. That would have been a huge selling album! Without a doubt if they would have kept those songs on there, i bet Frontiers at least sells the same as Escape.

I'm really glad that they added in "Ask the Lonely" and "Only the Young" into the album on the re-release, particularly AtL.

Those two songs were actually better than alot of the songs on the Album.

Oh, without a doubt. ATL is one of my all-time faves and OTY is a great song.

Yea, listened to frontiers after reading your post today. Edge Of The Blade is fucking incredible! For any asshole that ever said Journey is a pop band that just does ballads, listen to this song and realizw that you're an idiot. This was probably the very finest point of SP's voice. Just enough of the earlier high range and just a hint of the bigger, ballsier sound.

WOW!

Frontiers is probably my 2nd favourite Journey album after the incredible Evolution album!

I`ve just ordered the remastered Frontiers with the extra tracks on, why they were never included baffles me, great songs iMO.

Never been the biggest fan of Back Talk and Frontiers.

Send Her My Love, After The Fall, Separate Ways, Faithfully and Edge Of The Blade are absolutely top notch songs :)

Back Talk and Troubled Child over Only The Young and Ask The Lonely?

I have never understood that one.

Me either. Very weird choice to pick them over ask the lonely and only the young. Frontiers probably would have outsold escape too.

They make a kicked up version with sound now, sorta like a binocualr thing.
They were cool.
I ran the restaurant and we had our special drinks on the view master. The customers loved them

Didn't Herbie say it was a business decision to keep those 2 songs out for the upcoming movie soundtracks? And it did keep Journey on the radio during the lull years (84-85) between Frontiers & ROR. At least, that is my understanding, lol (I missed it all) ....

I agree, Frontiers would have been a kick-ass album with those 2 songs in it ... although, I have learned to enjoy BT and, especially, TC ... ATL and OTY are just more pop-friendly. I remember reading an old music review of Frontiers: Side A was terrific with all songs a hit ... while Side B was all fillers and forgetable.

The only reason Frontiers didn't make it past number two on the charts has nothing to do with the two tracks left off of it. The problem was a little album called Thriller. That album hit number one and just sat there. Did it have 8 or 9 singles released off of it? Who could overcome that. Frontiers was the victim of bad timing yet still sold a bundle of records

Yeah I remember reading that. No one was going to knock thriller from #1, even Journey. But lets face it, if those two singles were left on the album, it would have definetly help boost the sales of frontiers to a another million copies or two... at least. It probably could have had the potential to sell as much as escape or close to it.
