Oh that guy was great! If I remember correctly, he won that year didn't he? I wonder how his career is going now.

I love it when sheer talent overcomes all the bullshit expectations about looks and age. Good on her for going out and wiping the sneer off Simon's face.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Very inspirational...a story that teachs so much. As the saying goes...don't judge a book by it's cover.
I think she's awesome.. not only her voice is but the beauty she has inside shines thru to the outside..an all around lovely lady.

It made my mum cry.

The idea that she was all alone depressed and run down by bereavement over the loss of her parents, a frumpy virgin at the age of 48 with only a cat named pebbles for company and only inspired to sing again after the news that the competition was in her area is a very poignant story.

That is a very sad, and touching story. They ought to fly her here, and have her on that extreme make-over show. That would be awesome for her, and would make for a great show! I wish her the best.

Just shows there a lot of lonely people out there.
Nobody spares them a thought.

I hope she gets a lot out of doing the show, I really do.

Just wanted to give her a hug.
And you could see as the song went on just how much enjoyment she got out of the applause and the cheering.

Makes you wonder what she's been doing for 30 years that kept her from getting a shot at a singing career. It wasn't marriage or kids from what she said so... ?

That's a good question. She has obviously spent considerable time working at her craft. Sometimes it's all about the packaging, and maybe she just didn't "fit the image". You saw the reaction of the audience and the judges before she started singing.

She's from West Lothian (Lodainn an Iar). Sounds like some place in Middle Earth. No wonder no one has heard of her until now.

On ABC World News last night they said the video had had three million hits, with one million in one day yesterday. It's now up to over six and half million views today.

I think her voice would be great on a movie soundtrack.
